What Make .22 Rifle & Used For?

All of my .22 Caliber rifles are used for plinking/general shooting fun, and for target shooting. Also used by my kids and any other friends or family who go shooting with me. I stopped killing for sport many years ago, but if I do any hunting I would use any one of these as best suited to the task.

Ruger 10/22 1966 model with Clearidge RM 3-9x40 A/O (owned this rifle since I was a kid in the early '70s)
CZ 452 American with Sightron SII 6-24x42
CZ 452 American Left Hand with Sightron SII 6-24x42
CZ 452 Lux 22 Magnum with Weaver Grand Slam 4-16x44 (also used for hunting on the rare occasion that I do any hunting)
CZ 452 FS with Weaver V9 A/O
CZ 452 Trainer (open sights)
CZ 452 Scout with Red Arrow 4x32
CZ 452 Lux Left Hand (open sights)
CZ 511 with Weaver Grand Slam 4-16x44
Remington 121 Fieldmaster (open sights)

CZ 452 American 16.
Ruger 10/22 with an EABCO fast-twist accuracy barrel, Fajen stock, and Volquartsen internals.

Mostly plinking, but also some small game.

I have just realized that, at present, I have a hole in my .22 collection. I don't have a bolt gun, and maybe I need to remedy that problem.

What is the "bargain" .22 bolt rifle with peep sights these days?

I'd guess a Marlin, Ruger, or Savage with TechSights bolted on. Or, maybe a Savage Mark II FVT.

Not trying to be negative but “accurate” is up to anyone’s definition, without a clarification on what we are talking about.

Perhaps, accurate enough to enjoy shooting NRA metallic silhouette?

My LH CZ 452 American is used, for competition NRA metallic Silhouette. Rifle is scoped with free floated barrel and accurate out to 100 meters[109yds].

From teetertotter's signature. http://beloitrifleclub.org/about-us/range-facilities/silhouette-range/

I have a couple of .22LRs that would be fine for metallic silhouette, the first is an accurized 10-22 bull and the other is a cusomized Rem 581 with Lilja barrel and thumbhole stock (groups under 1 MOA at 100 yards).

Most sporters need some bedding, trigger improvements to be accurate enough for metallic silhouette. Replacing barrels with Lilja or other match-quality barrels is a major improvement for 10-22s and other rifles for which they're available.

My .22lr rifle is a Winchester 77/22 purchased in 1946. It was purchased for my fathers 15th birthday and I now have it. I even took it to a range and shot it a couple of weeks ago.

Sorry, I missed the "used for." It has the original iron sights and it is used for general plinking.

Do you like CZ I6turbo?
You could say that, but there are a lot of people like me and worse, especially with the rimfires. For one, see Bamajoey above.

Full disclosure, I could add to my list 3 550s, 3 527s, 4 75-based guns, and a 97B. And 4 BRNOs and a couple more CZs that I've sold to thin the herd a bit. :)

I like CZ too. Have four CZ handguns and two CZ rifles. I’d own more CZ rifles if they had not discontinued the 550 American.

I used to have a Ruger American Rimfire in .22 and it was a great little rifle. I saw a crazy good deal on a closeout Anschutz 1416D HB at my local Cabela's around a year ago and couldn't let it pass. Sold the Ruger to make it work. It has the two stage Anschutz trigger (5098 IIRC) - best trigger I've felt on any firearm. I use it for informal paper punching at 25, 50 and 100 yds, and also do the occasional silhouette competition at my local range. .22's are a real challenge at longer distances (say 100yds) due to the less than spectacular ballistics. Fun and cheap though!

Thanks. I just ordered the Savage Mark-II FVT. Seems like it is just what I need.

I have the base model Mark II in a wood stock, because I like wood and inexpensive things. Accuracy was disappointing to start, but after I ran 500+ rounds through it, it settled in a lot. So if it shoots 2"+ groups at 50 yards out of the box....don't panic. Just take that Bucket o' Bullets that you bought on an impulse during the 22lr shortage and go to town. And if it has the same junk base metal on the receiver bolts that bend before the action screws are up to the specified torque, get new DIP base metal. My screws were loosening during a shooting session and the metal flexed quite a bit before I reached the proper torque specified in the manual.

Mine is down to <.75" at 50 after that session and changed metal, and I have not tried to find the ammo it "likes" very hard.

I also have a Winchester 69A with receiver sights that has been used for my grandson's Jr. Rifle, target practice. I use it at the club's indoor range during the winter, and for plinking at metallic silhouettes outdoors. It's in really great shape and I got it cheap because the bolt handle was a little loose. A little TLC and Loctite Stud and Bearing Mount liquid took care of the looseness. It shoots great!!! IMG_2785.JPG
