There are small and large pistol primers, large and small rifle primers, and then there are magnum primers. What makes them different? Besides their sizes.
Different ignition material, therefore different temp and duration? I suspect rifles would need a little more oomph due to the large cases. The same with magnum primers for magnum pistol cartridges.
