I know there is no way of knowing the answer, but just for fun, what gun would you guess is the most carried model? Exclude LEO and military. Lump all 1911s together. My guess is a Glock 19.

This really is a thought provoking question because I only know a small number of people personally who have their Texas Concealed Handgun License.
None carry the J frame at all.
First there is me and it is rotated between the LCP and the PM9.
Another guy carry's an XD of some model in 9mm.
A woman at work carry's a Judge in her purse.
The guy who runs the indoor range where I shoot carry's an LCP.
Another shooter there carrys a Diamondback 380.
My soon to be licensed brother will be carrying the LCP he bought after trying mine out.

Different pistols for different reasons. CCW I use S&W 6906, open carry a Beretta 92. I don't carry my 1911's they are to heavy.

    Interesting question because...

Lately I've been SEEING, as in open carry, a few 1911 platform guns, and a boatload of Glocks and S&W M&P.
    BUT
I KNOW* of a number of CCW folks who have a Ruger LCP, S&W J frame, or a Walther PPS somewhere on their person (that you never see).

[*I know this because I taught them]

Yep, J-Frame in .38SPL. Probably nothing else comes close.

It's been around a long time in various models, and people who have been carrying for decades see no reason to switch.

I agree with the J-Frame 38 special being the most carried - there are oodles of them out there, and, it also happens to be what I carry.

I would have to go with the J frame snubby as well. Mine is a Model 638 that is so easy to carry and comfortable to shoot. My next guess would probably be something in a .380 auto; KelTec P3AT, Ruger LCP, Bersa Thunder, Taurus 738, Walther PPKs, and a Kahr P380 all come to mind.

+1 for j frame and conceal carry.

    For open carry maybe not.

I'll go with the S&W "J" frame also. That's what I usually carry.

I would say glock, where I live. Most people carry them. I'd rather carry a sig.

I agree that the j frame would win

My guess would be the polymer .380. I went larger, but the lightweight .380s are definitely the go anywhere, dressed any way gun.

I vote the J framed S&W's as well as all makes and models of such [ including Colt & Ruger ].

My second vote might be the 1911's.

I own all of the options and carry a 'J' as a BUG,but SO many in provate hands that it gets my vote as THE most carried daily gun in the USA.

The original question: "What model gun is the most popular carry gun"

    Glock 19

    "J Frame" isn't a "model" ;):p:D

This is just one point of reference, My wife and I just took a CCW class with 12 students, it was not done through a gun shop, so it was everyone bring your own gun, so no deal of the day guns were seen. We were divided up into groups of 6 for the shooting so I am not exactly sure who had what, there were 3 women and 9 men. I don't recall exactly what everyone had, we had an XD-9 SC and and XDM-9, there was also a full size XD-9 there that belonged one of the insturctors, and an XD-40 belonging to one of the students. The only other close matches were a pair of Ruger semi-autos, I am not sure of the model, but they were both 9mm and both looked similar, but were not identical. There was only 1 revolver in the group, a small frame 38 (Not S&W J frame, but something styled similar to it), 9mm was by far the most common caliber, but we did have a couple of .380's, one a Bersa, and the other an older nickel plated pocket gun of some type (screamed cheap junk from 20 years ago, whatever it was had no slide lock which was no end of problems with the must be open when gun was down rule ) being used by a woman that had never shot before. So out of this new group of people getting their permits there were no clear winners, with all / most of the major brands represented, mostly in Poly frame 9mm semi-autos which ranged from a S&W Sigma to a Glock on the high end.

If you look at the IPDA report on carry guns for the folks at the Nationals, IIRC the highest frequencies were some kind of Glock , followed by an SW snubby. I would have to look again and count but it looks that way.
