I saw a guy at the range who had a Smith .22 revolver with 2 cylinders.
One was a .22 LR and the other a .22 mag.

Anyone know anything about this model and ever see any for sale?
    Cost?

    the model also could be.......

My two cents worth as a newbie..

The model 17 and model 617 revolvers also came out as the 48 and the 648 which were essentially the same guns but chambered in 22 mag.

Now the barrel in the 22lr is about 2 thou tighter than the 22 mag but a small diet of mags won't hurt the gun if you had a cylinder fitted to the gun in 22 mag..

The conversion of the gun to 22 mag cylinders is fairly straight forward and can be done by any competent gunsmith.

Back in the day, S&W would fit a second .22LR cylinder to any of their .22WMR revovlers. You could order the gun with the second cylinder or return yours to the factory for the work.

    These include:

    Model 48 (K Frame in 4" 6" and 8 3/8" bbls)

    Model 651 (J Frame in 2" and 4" bbls)

Model 650 (J Frame with fixed sights)

    Model 51 (J Frame with 3.5" bbl)

They would not fit a WMR cylinder to their LR guns due to the slightly tighter bores.

Thanks for all the all the good replies.

Thanks especially to 9x19. Your comments reminded me of what exactly I'd heard about S&W adding a 2nd cylinder. That is EXACTLY the gun I'm looking for, in a longer barrel. Just wonder how many of them are out there and what they cost.

    Thanks,
    PB
