Please forgive me if I missed something in the thread, but I just have to ask . . . Given the sections that I've underlined, is there a reason not to just get a Glock 19? You've already got a P320, so I can see wanting something different. Do you already have a G19?

That said, there are lots good choices in this size range in 9mm.

No, I do not own a G19. Currently the 9mm P320 Compact is my only handgun. If I get a Glock 19, are there any modifications to it that you recommend?
Not really. I've only had 3 carry guns in my lifetime, and I left two of the three bone stock, with the exception of night sights. To be honest, I'm not really mechanically inclined & don't have the budget to have a bunch of gunsmithing work done. Family, house, etc.

My normal EDC (about 95% of the time) is a Gen 4 G19. I'm about 2.5 years and ~1400 rounds into it. It's stock with factory night sights. Long story short: I searched long and hard for a polymer 9mm on a budget. I had 3 or 4 models on The Short List, but Blue Label pricing tipped the scale for me. I figured that if I didn't like it, I'd never have any trouble selling a G19. I did have a problem after about 400 rounds. The slide lock spring broke. It's a $3 part and easy to fix. I watched a YouTube video and fixed it myself. I haven't had any trouble out of it since then. (If you want the whole story, I posted it in "A Grudging Review of the Glock 19" a couple of years ago.)

I've had a handful FTFs shooting TulAmmo BrassMaxx 115 grain FMJs, probably not the hottest round available. It's the cheapest thing I can get around here. I've had zero malfunctions with any of my carry ammo (124 or 147 grain JHPs. Usually Remington Golden Sabers, but also Speer Gold Dots from time to time.)

To be honest, the trigger will never be as nice as a good 1911 trigger. Maybe not even as nice a mediocre 1911 trigger. With that said, I'm not nearly as picky about triggers as some of THR residents. I'm not at all bothered by my G19 trigger. It's more than adequate, and I've come to terms with it just fine.

I'm going to concur with rskent. If you get a G19, put some rounds downrange before you decide if you need to upgrade something. There's a metric TON of aftermarket support for Glocks, and that's not going to dry up any time soon. If you decide that you need to modify something, you can always do it later. Whatever you get, get familiar with the pistol before you go tricking it out. ;)

I appreciate your insight. Thank you.

Lots of trigger talk... I haven't shot some of the guns mentioned but I don't remember any that I value as much as the trigger on my SR9c. (still waiting on a chance to shoot a Walther!!)

Added value to this gun is the 17 round mag in the box. With the extension I can't really tell any difference between the compact and full size.

I don't like the Glock 19 trigger as well. I shoot Glocks ok but I have to think about my shooting much more than my Ruger.

Please let us know what you get & how you like it, ATN. I don't participate in many of the "what new gun" threads, but when I do, I always like to hear how the situation turns out.

i had the Sig P320 ok gun, i could not get to be consistent with it, had the XDM 9mm with the 4.5" barrel, trigger pull was SO LONG, that that one had to go, i have the PPQ m2 good gun, trigger is good, barrel lock up is sloppy, i am surprised at that due to its price, overall my wife likes it, accuracy is fair, the Glock 17 is more accurate and the lock up on the barrel is solid at $100 less than the PPQ, i have the Glock 17, someone mentioned the Ruger SR9C, that gun is a wolf in sheep's clothes, that is my carry gun, excellent barrel lock up too, a thad more accurate than the PPQ. good trigger,

Chet

Ruger SR9C would be only choice for me. After having Glocks, and putting 1000 rounds thru the SR9C, I made the right choice, and its been my EDC ever since.

A few years back I was looking for a compact 9mm. and checked out the Glock 19, XD Compact, S&W M&P Compact, CZ P01 and P07, and the Ruger SR9c. Went with the Ruger SR9c as having the best trigger and design ergonomics for my smaller size hand. Later went back there and bought the CZ P01 because it was also a great fit and too good to pass up. try them all and find one that fits you just right.

These were the first two off the top of my head. I love them both, though the cz isn't very compact. It really only shaves about a half inch off the length and height.

You already mentioned the answer in your original post. Glock 19!

Although pretty much any of the ones discussed here are great handguns. I wouldn't feel uncomfortable with a Ruger, Sig, M&P, etc

My budget is a bit more stringent but I recently acquired a Ruger LC9s Pro for $320 and am very pleased with it so far. The trigger is fantastic. It's a striker fired single stack. The stock magazine holds 7 rounds. My advice is to find a range that lets you rent various guns and try a few out.

Solely because it can accept longer magazines and because it has such a large assortment of aftermarkets parts and accessories, I see no reason not to choose a Glock 19. That is, so long as you can shoot it well.

So many people become obsessed with finding that 9mm "Glock Killer" that sells for under $350 and the fact of the matter is, most of the time a used 9mm Glock sells for around $400 and as long as it was cleaned occasionally, is as good as a new gun.

Even when comparing brand new guns, taking the time to save up another $100-$200 for a Glock vs a Ruger 9E, a Canik TP9, a SCCY CPX, or a *cough* Kel-Tec *cough* will prove to be a better decision long term as the ability to find extra mags or lighter triggers or whatever is just easier and probably cheaper because it's a Glock and the Glock community is the largest handgun community in the world.

You already have a great versatile system with the P320. Why bother? I'd save the dough for a real nice all metal framed gun that will have some long term resale value.

I just ordered a Walther P99 just for something different. Less than a G19, but the quality reputation is pretty darned good according to the Internet. Which is true. Of course.
