I want to upgrade my front sight bead on my 870 HD with one that is a night sight. I don't want to outfit the gun with a full set of peeps but, I do want to be able to see the front sight better in low light. Any suggstions?

Thanks, Flip.

Brownell's sell most of the available luminous bead sights.
http://www.brownells.com/

Remington also sells their version.

The Express/HD 870 has a pressed-in front bead.
Usually, the best thing to do is to have a gunsmith extract the factory bead, drill and tap the hole to the right size, then screw in the new bead.

Preacherman, have any hands on experience with the XS Sights?
(or anyone else for that matter.)

I was looking at them for my SIG P229, and it might make sense to have same matching sights on the 870 and the SIG>

Thanks.

Here's the one I recently purchased for my 870P...

Marble Arms Tritium Shotgun sight

I choose this one over the "Tru-Dot" version because this one has a white ring around the Tritium vial which is more similar to my hand guns and also makes it easier to pick out during daylight hours.

FYI - the factory bead on my police model 870 was not threaded either so my barrel is currently at my local gunsmith being drilled and tapped

I installed the Meprolight "Tru-Dot" tritium front sight on my 870 but have been very disappointed with it. Visibility in darkness is lousy. Barely qualifies as a "night sight" at all, in my book.

Avoid it, and try instead the XS Sight Systems setup or the Marble Arms/Trijicon sight, both noted above.

RTFM -

I use the XS Express sights on my 870. I prefer them to both the factory bead and the factory rifle sights. I've found them to be a good blend of speed and precision for what I do with my gun (classes/competitions).
