• Possible Downtime Alert

I am working to migrate THR from the current cluster to a new one. I would like to get this done before the weekend, but it's unclear what the timeframe will be, as testing is still ongoing. As I am writing this the new (rebuilt) host is doing a burn-in to ensure that everything will keep running under load.

When the migration happens users will see a Cloudflare message indicatating it cannot connect to the server. This is expected, and depending on how the migration goes this may last from 30 minutes to 3 hours - I won't know more until testing the various migration options is complete and I have finalized the plan.

More information is available in this thread.

As always, thanks so much for your patience.

What really turns your crank?

One thing, not physical, is being high gun two weeks in a row on our three team group of league shooters. After five months and shoulder injury, I flew high with 24-25, and 23-25, the 25s at handicap.
Told the guys that there was 130 combined years of experience, my 80 and my TBs 50.

I like older single shot rifles, double shotguns and rifles, combination rifle/ shotgun in side by side or over/under. Black powder or modern, external hammers is a plus. Love single action revolvers, my last build was on a Ruger Blackhawk frame, 8" barrel, 25/20 and 256 cylinders. Scoped for varmit shooting. Probably my last custom revolver build. Probably my last build of anything. Have more toys than I will play with. My young relative that is half owner of everything will enjoy toys for the rest of his life. I enjoy watching him shoot stuff more than shooting myself now. The smile on his face is priceless. A while back loaded up a flintlock blunderbus. Him shooting it answered his question about why I shoot black powder. Now he loves shooting black powder guns. Seeing him smile turns my crank.

Key word is available, to which I need to add affordable.

I'm working on a writing project dealing with the American war on crime in the 1920s and '30s.

To that end I've accumulated examples of several significant revolvers and holsters.

Two autopistols I'm currently watching for are a shootable 1903 Colt .38 ACP Pocket _Hammer_ and a Savage .32 Auto. A Winchester 1907 in .351 might be nice too.

PSA has a 40th Anniversary P226 for less than $1000. Been eyeing it for weeks. Wife told me to wait until Memorial day before I get one. 😡 You can't get into the P226 brand new for under $1000 very often, if ever. It's a no thrills version, so no Pic rail, or optic cut slide. But still, it's a 9mm P226, it's been a bucket list item for years for me.

About anything… my revolver section needs filled up. I find myself currently WITHOUT a 22lr of any kind, and THAT is a problem!
So… I get cranked up looking at glossy blue, nice figured walnut and tooled leather; but then I like the newer stuff too… so… a 6GT, and a 25 creed and a classic 270 win are likely the next…. And a 357 mag(probably GP100) and a 44 mag, and a 460 s&w… ok. I need help… lol

I really wish that the 3 gun games would have taken off with the roaring 20s theme. I think they called it Zoom Shooters or something similar. I always wanted to roll up in a model A, gray pinstripe suit, and unload a Thompson or chopped BAR, a matched pair of commercial prewar 1911s or M&P38s, and a chopped browning auto 5, essentially to match what Clyde Barrow was known for. I need a Remington 11 beater to turn into a barrow-esque whippet

That would be cool! Look like the topperweins or something!

A small PCC for home defense. Even something that qualifies as a pistol, so I can carry it loaded in my car with my CCL. Something that generally looks like an HK SP5, but preferably in 45ACP.

I actually recently "semi-inherited" an M1 carbine "Enforcer" variant. It was actually my female cousin who inherited it from her dad (my uncle). She does want something for it, but she's not asking for much. She lives a long way away and we haven't had a chance to work out the details yet. However that might be a little much for home defense anyway! I remember that same uncle had a Ruger Blackhawk in .30 Carbine, and he said it was deafening outdoors and I can only imagine what it would be like indoors. Probably at least on par with .357 Mag.

I would like to have one of these:

One of my favorites!
Chambered in .45-120

I have way too many interests, and probably closed down my single shot shotgun passion, at least for a little while.
I want a ruger No 1. In a classic cartridge like 30-06 or 7x57, something world winning and just usable. I also want a serious hunting pistol other than ar pistols. Like a 50jrh BFR.
And of course more suppressors... and...

Right now, Nothing is turning my crank. Actually, I'm turned off with this plastic, black, tactical gun thing and moving back in time to older wood and metal. Even single shots and black powder.
An old school cap gun can raise your interest.
At one time I claimed my Uberti '58 to be the most accurate revolver I owned.

Pop can and storm door frame aluminum AR's never have triggered me.
Until lately. A sport and sport two plus a SFAR are fun to reload for in my softer old age. And the exact same powder works well for all. Just crank them out on the auto index and pick them up off the barn floor.
Then the Garands. Then the mini 14 and thirty. LAR 8 Varmint is an anchor to carry. Autoloader junkie. Only Autoloaders need apply. That's what turning elderly and preparing for a middle fixed income has got me.
Cheep entertainment.
So that's what turns my crank. Boring to most.

I have only 2 real gaps in my options. A semiautomatic PPC/AR/AK. I have owned both an AR and AK, but really don't have a use for them other than ammo eating.

The other and the gun that is turning my crank right now is a mid bore rifle. A 35 Whelen, 9.3×62, or 375 Ruger. The Ruger in a African model 77 LH is leading the pack.
