I was looking at this stuff and Hornady is so busy hyping the Zombie thing they don't say much about the ammo. They say "for use on the undead only" and then put in "caution: this is LIVE ammo". What gives with this stuff? I mean I get it is a marketing ploy but what is it?

It looks like polymer-tipped either varmint of SD ammo. They even have it in 30-30 which looks for all the world like rebranded Lever Evolution or whatever.

I mean did they just take a variety of red polymer tipped ammo, as is, and print up a fancy green and red box for it? It's kinda kooky unless it is good ammo I suppose. It comes in handgun and rifle ammo. Here I am interested in the .223 context.

    Marketing is a funny animal.

And why is green always for zombies?

Kabar is doing the same thing in their new knives. :banghead:

    It's green, like yo mama!

Well, Obviously they use green because they know more about this stuff than you or I do.

I've got a couple boxes of it in everything caliber I own, just as a novelty. Got some more that I shoot in 9mm onna counta Cabela's sells the 9mm for 17 bucks which is cheaper than I can find the Hornady CD ammo. Although, I have yet to find soem 30-30 in stock...

And yes, I have my Ka-Bar knife and my Ruger LCP-Z (Zombie Slayer!!)

Just a cute marketing gimmick. Same thing as Critical Defense and V-Max if I remember correctly, just with a green tip.

The marketing of the stuff happened around Halloween last year. There are several threads on it.

The general consensus was "decent marketing idea". I bought some myself and it still gives me a smile when I see it.

You have to admit, its somewhat more politically correct than saying "for Indians only".

I'd buy several boxes of it in 5.7 just for kicks... to go along with the boxes in .45 I've already got.

..but now that I look.. they do have the .224 40gr Z-max available in bullets for loading... Hmmm..

The whole "Zombie" thing is so overplayed, overmarketed, and just dumb.

Since I bought ZombieMax ammo there has not been a single zombie sighting in my area.
    Obviously, the stuff works.

Let your kids play all of those video games and one day they get older (note I didn't say "grow up") and they buy into stupid stuff like that.

So wait.. Buying ammunition that is identical in composition and performance to a well accepted brand of self defense ammunition is buying into stupid stuff? Even though in some cases is costs less than the stuff without the green dye in the polymer tip?

Some people need to lighten up.

The stuff is good for a chuckle.

Now, if ya'll 'scuse me. I got some video games to get back to.

I bought two boxes of it in different calibers for the heck of it. Good ammo from what I'm told, far too expensive for what you get unless you realize you're buying the giggle factor.

Zombie themed firearm obsession + "zombie walks" + a mentally ill person = something very bad happening. I think this zombie craze could end badly for the firearms community.

God forbid Hornady had some fun marketting their v-max varmint round as something as dangerous and unholy as zombie ammo. I mean, there go our civil liberties, right out the window, and it's all Hornady's fault.

Seriously. Get the stick out of your @ss and lighten up. If this is all you have to complain about, consider yourself lucky and go buy a lottery ticket.

totally disagree with your whole statement. I'm not into the whole zombie thing myself since it's expensive, but what's wrong with a little fun?
Back in the day, they were into aliens I believe...

sorry, don't know how to quote

Need some zombie ammo in 38 Special and 357 Magnum.

But, really, the whole zombie thing has been done to death.

Some of you guys need to lighten up a bit. I think its a kinda cool idea and gives alot of people a quick chuckle in such a serious sport. Don't like it you say? Don't buy it and let the zombies get ya!

The sport of zombie hunting that is :D

Totally agree. Kudos to them for going for some broader appeal and having some fun with it. Their marketing department should get an award. Just not sure who would give it out. If someone figures out how to screw up with these things, we should help pay Hornady's legal fees.
OTOH, it could be a secret anti-superhero plot. First, corner the market with red-kryptonite-tipped bullets, and now green-kryptonite? Watch out Superman, the Zombie thing is just a cover.
