What time do pistol matches usually take place?

I work nights now, and it's hard to drag my butt out of bed anytime before 11:00. Needless to say it's REALLY hard to get started in IDPA matches, which have new-shooter sign in at 8:00 AM.

Is this a universal thing to have matches at the buttcrack of dawn?

I feel you man, most of them around here begin at 8 or 9. I was lucky enough to find one that begins at 2 p.m. on Sundays. I really like that time. I would love it if they began at about noon.

I know of two clubs that shoot on Sunday afternoon.
There is one that runs the same CoFs twice, Saturday morning and afternoon, and one that shoots the same CoF this Sunday afternoon and next Saturday morning.

Maybe what is needed is a volunteer to say "Leave the targets set up and I will come out in the afternoon and run the Slugabed Special."

Here in Colorado most start at 9:00 or 10:00. Matches close to Denver start at 9:00, the ones in the sticks start at 10:00.

Sign in around here is either 9 or 10 with matches starting at 10 or 11. Today I shot a match that went 11-4...it was terrible, it took forever.

Hmm... it seems that most are "early bird" events. Even so, I wish there were some around here like some mentioned -- circa 10 or 11 in the morning.

I guess when life gives you lemons, you need to shut up and eat your lemons.

IMO matches held during the winter months should not start until at least 10 A.M.
Guess I am whining a bit in that we have to travel a good ways to get to some of the matches. My home club is just as bad in that we start at 9.

Wes, I feel your pain, several of us that shoot the UDPL matches at the FARM, www.UDPL.net work the night shift and still manage to make it to the matches though. It only hurts for a while then you get your second wind. Actually, you are pretty relaxed, (tired). Some of my best scores have been shot following a night shift. It really comes down to which is more important at that monemt, shooting or sleeping. You only have to attend the new shooter orientation once, from then on, your good to go, just show up at the scheduled start time.

Try getting to the match four hours before the shooters meeting for set-up, three times a month. Then staying an hour afterwards to make sure it gets put away. All that for a free match.

And some people still have the nerve to complain about stage design... That used to piss me off so much I finally just quit as club pres. As of now, three months after I quit, we still dont have a new pres.
