I want a Win. M70 short action, 22" barrel, in stainless but I also want the model 70 wood stock. Since they don't sell it that way, which stainless model 70s would fit the factory FEATHERWEIGHT Short Action Sporter Rifle Stock?

Would the m70 Extreme Weather SS, Ultimate Shadow SS, or Shadow Hunter SS fit it?

Thanks to all for the help.

Only a featherweight will fit a featherweight stock. The featherweight uses a lighter contour bbl than the rest of the M70 line. They offered the Featherweight Stainless as recently as 2012. Have you tried to track one down on an auction site, or even had your local dealer try to find a NOS model through the various distributors?

There is only one on gunbroker at the moment, but it is in 270 Win, so not a short action. They aren't made any more but they are out there. Grab a phone and a phone book and start calling. You'll find one.

Hard to say. With all the ownership changes over the years, barrel profiles may have changed.

My advise is if you want a stainless featherweight, then hold out for one. Put in the leg work. Post ads in a conspicuous place frequented by shooters and hunters. Call every FFL dealer in your state. Then every FFL dealer in every state adjoining yours. Check gunbroker daily. If the Stainless Featherweight is THE rifle you want, and a very lust worthy rifle it is, then get it. When you do it will make for a lifetime heirloom to be passed from generation to generation.

It is a 10-15 minute job to open up the barrel channel to make sporter barrel fit a Featherweight stock. It is a simple DIY home project.

So other than barrel contour all M70s share the same inletting? The stock doesn't have to be a featherweight as long as its walnut and has the Schnabel for-end.
