What would you get with $300?

Both of my Witness pistols are the small frame version (full-size, smaller magazine well). I've put about 2000 rounds through the pair and I think I've had 2 FTFs - both after shooting quite a bit and the pistols already a bit dirty. I shoot a lot of CCI aluminum (as it's cheap) and these are very accurate and reliable...

CZ-82
Police trade in Sig P-6 (P225)
Used or NIB old stock Ruger MK II (I don't like the MKIII's)
Police trade in Glock
Bulgarian Makarov

Right now the CZ-82 and the Sig P6 are the best deal going.

For a Few Dollars More

A NIB S&W 642 or 442. A preowned for sure.

Under $300....

BERSA Thunder or BERSA CC. in .380.

I did not mention rifles earlier since we're in the handgun section. But I'd definitely look into a CZ 452 or other high quality/low price 22lr long gun. I'd also consider a good 22lr in semi-auto.

+1 on the Kel-tec P-3AT.

I carry my subcompact 1911 most of the time now, but that tiny little 380 disappears in even the smallest pockets, and it would be a great backup gun or primary for the times when there is no way to carry anything else.

Not too long back, a year or so, I bought a surplus Ballester Molina .45acp pistol. Cost me $260

You know, that gun is as good as any .45 auto I've ever owned. Shoots great, and accurate.

I'd have bet on that. Its the large frame witness in 9mm and .40S&W that are very iffy. The .45ACP, 10mm, & .38Super are generally as you describe, although I had to squeeze in the feed lips on my 10mm mags as they were too wide and couldn't hold the rounds in place with full power loads.

Got to be careful when recommending a Witness -- too many variations and mags that work for some are nearly impossible to find. In 9 or .40 stick with the CZ IMHO. I believe the small frame EAA guns have been discontinued recently.

What would you get with $300 and where would you get it?

Three hundred bucks? I personally would be looking for a used Ruger SP101 in .357, or spend whatever extra it takes over the specified $300 to get the same thing new.

A CZ-82 and about 6 boxes of ammo at aimsurplus.com
+3 or 4 (lost count)

The CZ-82 is one of the best deals going right now. I love how mine shoots and the polygon barrel cleans up very easily. It's a fine gun with great sights (same sights that are on the current production CZ75). Good sights are a rarity on C&R guns.

You know, the CZ82 does seem like a great deal.
The Makarov ammo is a negative but not a big deal.

I think I will either go with the CZ or a Keltec P3AT.

Thanks.

I would either get a Glock 22 from here:

$330 + your FFL fee usually $30-50
orA Mossberg 930 (semi-auto) 12 gauge with the 18 1/2" and 28" barrel for $425 + your FFL fee
http://www.rrarms.com/catalog.php?prod=G85325

or a A Mossberg 500 (pump action) 12 gauge with the 18 1/2" and 28" barrel for $257 + your FFL fee
http://www.rrarms.com/catalog.php?prod=G54169
both can be had in wood or synthetic stocks

All 3 are great defensive guns, good luck!

I found a like new CZ 75BD for $300 and a Sig 229 for $320 recently. The Sig came from my son-in-laws police department when they went to Glock. It only had 500-600 rounds fired through it.

My local shop has brand new Ruger P95's on sale for $289. If I had some spare cash, I would not hesitate to grab one.

Buckmark Stainless Camper w/ TruGlo front sight. I got one of these recently for about $300 with tax. Shoots great, better grip angle than the Ruger Mark II or III for my hands. Lots of fun to shoot and even though all ammo is going up in price 22 is still cheap to shoot.

With luck you could find a used Smith & Wessons in 38 Special or 357 Magnum sometimes show up at that price. J or K frame, maybe an older gun in blue...
