I'm putting together a new range bag to take with me for pistol shooting, and got to thinking about what I needed to include. I know some guys who only bring their pistol/mags and ammo, others who bring their entire set of gear.

Personally, I find that I like to have something and not need it rather than need it and not have it, so I bring a lot of stuff:

1. Extra Earpro
2. Extra ammo
3. Small vial of white lithium grease, in case I get a jam - I've never had to use it on my own guns, but have loaned it out more than once
4. Tupperware (for spent brass)
5. Water bottle
6. Mag loader - again, don't usually need it, but on brand-new mags and for people who aren't used to loading a boat-ton of mags every shoot it's nice to have

So what do you guys carry with you to the range? I'm assuming people who shoot a lot of rifles have extra gear, but maybe I'm missing a cool thing that would help me out at the range?

My range bag is from MidwayUSA and it is fairly large so here is what I put in it for a typical range trip.

1. 2 pistols (Glock 19, S&W M&P9)
2. 3 mags for each pistol (in mag pouches in an outside pocket)
3. 4 AR-15 mags
4. ~300 9mm rounds
5. ~150 .223/5.56 rounds
6. ~40 .270 WSM rounds
7. Ear muffs and plugs (+3 pairs of plugs)
8. Eye pro (+1 extra set)
9. Cleaning rod, lubricant, rag (not a full kit unless breaking in a new rifle)
10. Mag loader with the magazines
11. Targets
12. Staple gun
And I think that's about it, I keep my Leatherman MUT multi-tool on my belt so I don't need any tools in the kit.

I just go to the range in my service truck. Welder, air compressor, come-along, 6" grinder, impact wrench, assorted hand/power tools. 8000w generator, 9000lb winch, and a small flat blade screwdriver. If I have to, I can make target frames, weld up the shot up ones, power the fridge, and convection oven, put out the box fan, BBQ grill, and wish I had remembered to bring a gun!

pistol of the day
mag
ammo
hearing and eye protection
leatherman all in one folding tool thing
rem oil wet wipes
ziplock bag for brass
note pad and pen for notes on reloads

Lots of good ideas given. Wish I could get a service truck into my range bag. Obviously, I need a bigger bag. (That was a great post, BTW.)

In addition to the good ideas posted....

3. Small tool kit. Fits in a plastic soap dish. Hex wrenches, screwdrivers, small pliers, etc.
4. Tiny first aid kit. Also fits in a plastic soap dish. 1 bandaid, antibiotic ointment, papaya tablet for bee/wasp stings.
5. Spare ear plugs
6. Small tube of sunscreen, small bottle of near pure DEET.
7. $5 Walgreen light with LED at the end of a gooseneck (bore light).
8. Single AA LED flashlight.
9. Spare batteries for chrono, flashlight, bore light.
10. Small bottle of Rem Oil.
