What's the best aftermarket trigger for S&W

You can get there two different ways.
You can get there with a Apex Tactical Competition AEK (Action Enhancement Kit) which retains the hinged trigger; you can also add the new AEK polymer solid trigger for a slightly different feel.
You can also get there with the Apex Tactical FSS (Forward Set Sear) kit which comes with a solid trigger. It shortens both the takeup and the reset distances

Thanks for your kind offer but the Apex Tactical FSS kit looks like what I'm after.
Has anyone shot an M&P with one of these kits installed? I guess what I'm trying to ask is, how good a range gun can you make out of a M&P?

I have the FSS in the M&P9 that I shoot in IDPA competition.
Installation of the FSS took the gun that I could barely hold 3" with (because of the grit and hump in the trigger) to one that would shoot under an inch at the same distance. We shot it before and after the install to compare the difference it would make.
When shooting at speed, I can place 2 shots at 12 yards in about 3" and transition to the next target, align the sights and start the press, while both of the first two casings are still above the slide
The trigger, when set up for speed, feels like a 1911 with a rolling letoff

Yeah 9mm, the trigger is a bit gritty at first but wears in pretty good after a few cleanings and some range time.
Can understand wanting it a bit better though for IDPA.

I thought that too and planned on shooting at least a couple of matches with it to see how it would improve. It did get a bit less gritty, but never really smoother...and I was comparing it to a SIG 226 DA first shot
I found I had a choice of either slowing way down to prevent pushing it over the last hump or shooting 6+" low groups.
I wouldn't have put up with it in a duty/carry gun either. I'm a bit spoiled, having come up shooting revolvers, but anything much less than a Kahr trigger just isn't acceptable for me anymore....I'm referring to smoothness, not trigger weight

CZguy Same for me. Pocket a cm9 or iwb a cw9 . In a day or to I will have a TP40 too. We have several other revolvers and pistol but for CC its very hard for me to get away from a light weight handgun with a DA type trigger pull. Wife has a M&P9C and a apex duty carry kit comeing for it and will let here deside if the hammer spring gets changed or not. Her trigger is the no full DA trigger , not the short reset version.
When asking about M&P triggers, I've come to learn that 9mmEpiphany's advice is pretty much spot-on. I don't have the pull weight reduced (I got the carry kit, not the competition kit), but if I wanted to set up my gun specifically for competition I would have gotten the carry springs and FSS trigger.
