Why aren't Bushmaster rifles ever mentioned in these AR threads? Is there some issue with them that I am unaware of? Just to reveal my bias, I own a Bushmaster, as does my roommate, and both of us are completely satisfied with our rifles. Because of our experiences, I am always just a little surprised that no one ever mentions Bushmaster, whereas DPMS and Rock River get mentioned constantly. Anyway, just curious to know what the deal is there...

Because Stag Arms is making the best bang for the buck these days. Better than Bushmaster and RRA, and cheaper too. ;)

Bushmaster rifles are excellent rifles, but as others have said they are more expensive than other rifles of similar quality. I think with Rock River Arms, Stag, and CMMG producing good quality rifles these days for a reasonable price Bushmaster has a lot more competition and as such is not mentioned as much as they used to have been. You see a similar phenomenon with Armalite rifles, they are very well made but are rarely mentioned.

I just bought a Bushy carbine upper to go on my RRA lower. Based on my first trip to the range, I'd say it's a match made in heaven. :)

Huh, I guess I never noticed that Bushmaster was more expensive, but I guess thats a function of never even actually seeing a Stag. The RRA rifles I have seen seem like they are comparable in price. I Learn something new every day!

I love my Bushmaster M4A3, never had an issue, shoots great, less than $900 brand new. No complaints here. I never noticed that Bushmasters were more expensive than Stags, most everywhere I look I see them for about the same price. I suppose if you're talking about uppers and lowers maybe, but as for complete rifles most I see are priced fairly close. I say that certain models of Bushmaster, Stag and DPMS can be purchased for roughly the same price, what it really comes down to is personal preference.

I guess I'm a little bias seeing as though my Bushy was born in Maine just like me:D

Bushy makes a great Gun, So does RRA... CMMG has come from a little spot in MO to a major player... DPMS, I have words... for I will not post on this board. Not happy with the quality control that Stag has, but they make them cheap and it's a 1 in a 1,000 issue, so that 0.1% is pretty good.

When you step up to the AR Plate... your check book is the limit, they pretty much all look the same from 5 feet away and you need to research what you want and what you're going to do with it!

AR's aren't Legos, but they are the Camaro of the Gun Industry. Not all Black Guns are created equal, there isn't a one size fits all, but they can be had for many uses.

I'll hop off the soap box

Well, I certainly like my Bushmaster. It's actually the second one I have had, and I liked them both! If I have one complaint with my personal Bushmaster, it would be that I wish it came with a flash hider. It's a pretty minor complaint and easy enough to fix, but I just wish it had one to begin with. Past that, my rifle (more accurately, my carbine) is exactly what I personally wanted in an AR: It has carbine-sized M16A2-style round handguards, it has the traditional solid buttstock, and it has regular old "M16" iron sights with a removable handle for optics should I ever want to upgrade. It's not fancy and it doesn't have a single tactical rail on it, and thats exactly what I wanted.

Bushy proly makes the best ar bbl out there, but there are others, mentioned above, thqt do a fantastic job, for less of a price, especially the stag.

Because Bushmaster has delivered guns with canted front sights for years and is unwilling to stop doing it. I got one a few months ago. All it would take is a little more care in assembly or actually QAing the rifles before they ship them to dealers.

I was able to find ALOT of info re: BM here when I was doing my research before I bought my 1st AR. The only downside I found was cost -- on the flip side tho, I have found some of their parts to be of better quality than other less expensive parts I originally went with.

Around my neck of the woods, bushmasters are the least expensive AR you will find other than an olympic arms AR.

A lot of people are more interested in mixing and matching to build their ultimate rifle, whatever that means. Here in California, it means doing a little dance to get around some odd laws.

Bushie sells packaged guns. I suspect there's not as much to talk about. You either pay your premium price for the package they offer, or you don't.

Do they still have the purple parkerizing? That and the front sight problem insured I would not be a customer.

Because of the following:

Bushmaster is expensive for what you get.

They don't offer much variety (thin barrels, faster twists)

The internet has taught hundreds of thousands to build their own.

A lot of people are just building their own rifles with the parts and configuration they want. It usually comes in cheaper than Bushmaster, with a minimum of equal parts quality or usually higher.

The market has changed. There are so many choices these days in barrel profile and twist rate. Not to mention midlengths too. There are so many buttstocks, rails and options that for many people, it makes no sense at all to buy a complete rifle only to break it down and replace things.

DPMS gets more discussion because they appeal to a more value-oriented consumer base. If folks can't afford the higher dollar stuff, DPMS provides good options for less money. However, Bushmaster's prices are higher than or competitive to building rifles of equal or higher quality with specific parts tailored to the user's demands. If someone can't spend $900 or more on a rifle, chances are they aren't going to buy a $300 rail or a $400 optic or a $200 stock. They are likely to keep the rifle in standard configuration which means DPMS is fine for their purpose.

Bushmaster is still stuck in the past. HBAR's are starting to die off due to other choices and information on the internet. I've always hated them. Why should I lug around another 1.5lbs or more for NOTHING. For zero benefit. People also want the 1/8 or 1/7 more and more. More people handloading, and with Black Hills and others offering heavy loads it has increased demand.

The people who can spend $900 or more on a rifle are starting to take a serious look at medium to lightweight profile barrels, midlengths, and faster twists.

I love my BM.

Around here Bushmasters arent more expensive than any other brand, from what I've seen.

I was at a gun show over the weekend, and Bushmaster, DPMS, RRA, Stag, etc all were in the same price ballpark. The only brand that was significantly less was Olympic.

And of course, Colt was WAY more than anything else.
