What's the holy grail of firearms?

I am also with the Garand guys here..Imagine how much a prestine, never used, perfectly preserved, ORIGINAL WWII manufactured, functional M1 Garand .30-06 would be worth TODAY. :what:

As said, everyone has their own idea of what their Holy Grail would be. Mine would be the Garrand my Father carried in either WWII/Pacific, or the one he carried in Korea. I recall that someone about a year ago actually tracked down his Fathers WWII Garand (the Father still recalled the s/n) and gave it to him on his birthday.
That would be my Holy Grail

Thanks to all for posting in the most interesting thread I have ever read on any firearm-related site!

Time constraints limited my reading to the first 100 posts, but I'll be back.

This may be a duplicate of a post I haven't read yet, but my "Holy Grail" would be the original ivory-handled wheel gun carried by General George S. Patton through World War II.

The pistol disappeared at the time of his death. I have hopes that it may reappear upon the death of its present 'owner' or his descendant; but I also fear that its provenance may not be recognized, and it may pas from indifferent owner to indifferent owner for a long, long time.

It's out there somewhere! All is forgiven, people! Let us see it!

For all we know, Patton's revolver could have already been (or might be in the future) destroyed. :(

For me, it would be a pair of bespoke English "Best" guns from the likes of Purdey, David Mackay Brown or similar, or one of Hofer's or Ollendorf's custom rifles

I posted on another thread, I purchased a luck of the draw CMP Springfield Armory Garand manufactured the month I was born (12/21/1943) -- is that fortuitous?????????

A WWII Liberator - the stamped sheet-metal, single shot .45 that was dumped over Europe for the resistance, and also to demoralize the Nasis. It is a simple, ugly, cheap gun, but it embodies the spirit of hope and freedom!
i signed up just so I could ask you this: would you really fire a .45 acp round out of that thing? I would be terrified...

Aloha dxHI. Welcome to the best forum on the web. I'm a fairly new bee too, joined in June.
You in HI? My son just came back today from Kauai, our old home.
Where you from?
Maybe I should check in the intro forum. You there?

And my holy grail? How about the Barrett Long Range Sniper Rifle, Caliber .50, M107 with a Leupold 4.5x14 Mark-IV scope. It would be so cool to hit a paper target over a mile away.

A M1 Garand. that is all.

At first I was also thinking of the M1 Garand. Ok, I choose it for the old, and the Barrett for the new.
Oh, my father's M1 Garand he carried from June 1944 (Normandy) to Germany would have been the sentimental first choice.

For me it would be any 1911 that could be shown with provenence as being on Auxillary Oiler - 79 "Cowenesque" My father carried one of them often as the pilot of the ships small boat and he said that the armorer often gave them a few extra mags and told them to function fire them at various items of flotsam and jetsam to make sure they worked.
Or a 1903 that has provenence to Marines in the Pacific Theater in WWII.

High on my want list is a S&W model 10 or 12 with a 3" mid weight barrel.
Next would be a 3" 940 barrel and a great gunsmith to put it on my 642.

The Browning Model 1910 used to assassinate Archduke Ferdinand. To the best of my knowledge it's never been found. Whenever you see one at a gun show, it could be the one. ;)

Second that.

Or the M1 carbine used by Audie Leon Murphy.

A Colt Python in every variant it was ever made in. You can never have too many snakes.

One of the missing Parkers. Or the 45 Luger. Oh, I know, the gun that doesn't run out of ammo, shoots completely flat, 0 MOA. Yep, that's the one.

Lots of good info on the rare and obscure but my thought is once I have 1 of EVERYTHING then that will be the answer to this post.:) This is a lifelong goal to be sure and work hard to add to my success as often as my pocketbook allows.:D If calculations serve me I will be 522 years old at my present wage level.:banghead: Oh well it is the thrill of the chase for now.
