I like to think there's someone out there carrying a Desert Eagle. Preferably in .50 cal. You have to admit, that would be pretty neat.

    Stupid, but neat.

Let's here accounts of people carrying really large handguns here. Stuff like a Model 29 or a Wildey. Someone has to be out there doing it, but I'd be surprised if it were a HighRoader.

By the way, bear defense doesn't really count for this, unless it's everyday.

.45acp is about the limit for me: either in full-size 1911 or the Officer's model.

I can't tell if you're joking or not.:)
That's exactly the kind of stuff I'm looking for. What state, or city?

Not hardly a week has gone by since I started carrying this one but it carries better than my J frame in this Milt Sparks rig. Not large by DE standards but it is by average standards.

I had a buddy in the Corps who carried a DE in a shoulder holster under a jacket.
I have only carried up to a .45 and thats enough for me.

No joke. As far as the town; Shelby County, Texas. He looks just like you would think, 6' 4" tall (at least) and probably 275 pounds.

^ You must have some mighty sturdy kankles.

HK USP Tactical in .45ACP. Its pretty big for a .45. I have to admit, I felt more comfortable with it than when I carry the .380.

    I'm just wondering...
Are people larger on average down in Texas?

Whenever someone posts a weight and height it seems extremely large.

About 200 lbs and 6'2" is what I call medium large up here.
Larger than most people but smaller than a few.
But I've seen people from the States saying that they weigh over 300 lbs and 6'8"! Do Americans eat more or something?

What's considered large in your area?

By the way, when weights are posted it's usually on a thread about a large caliber like the .454 or .44.

    I EDC a 5" steel 1911.
    I used to EDC a 6" S&W 629 .44 magnum in a Bianchi X15 shoulder rig.
    I am 6'4" 310 lbs 54" chest and 42x34 pants.

6' 4" 275 pounds is considered huge here. I assume that's considered huge anywhere. I stated his size just in case anyone was wondering. Next time I will refrain from mentioning a persons size unless it's on a larger caliber thread like .454 or .44.

Please, please don't tell me these are typical sizes. Now I feel like I'll never be able to be comfortable firing a 454.

Truly though...I'm ashamed of how little I weigh...
190 lbs and 6'1". Compare that to the numbers above, it's only about 70 to 60 percent of the weight!

OK, I got off topic there.
    Back on topic:

John Ross, author of "Unintended Consequences," believes in carrying the largest firearm one can comfortably carry and conceal. For him, it's this 4" barreled 500 S&W with the compensator removed, resulting in a 3" snubby:
    sw500snubbedjohnross466ace.png

He carries it in a SmartCarry. He says this about a concealed carry class he teaches:

"In every class, someone complains there isn't any good way to conceal anything but a mousegun when wearing typical indoor clothing. I smile and draw the 500."
