In a pistol? Just curious as I know there have been one or two versions made before.

The desert eagles I have been around have been very solid performers. Silly accurate and easy to shoot too. Even the rent-a-beater at the range runs decently when they clean it every 4 dozen boxes .
NONE of the 44 autocrunchers will tolerate reduced loadings well. If you don't like the big boom every time don't get one and expect it to run well.

Desert Eagles do a good job of it.
Even with the 300gr loads. Doesn't hurt that they work via a fixed-barrel, gas-operated, rotating-bolt mechanism, not too different from an M16/AR-15. (Save for the combustion products being dumped into the action on the latter) I doubt I'd ever sell my Desert Eagle.

There is no such thing as a 'reliable' 44 Magnum autoloading pistol. The main reason is the huge variance in power level, powders, bullet style, bullet shape, bullet composition, etc. The 44 Magnum was designed for revolvers. In an autoloading pistol like the Desert Eagle, you'll find that many loads will be 100% reliable when the pistol is clean and lubed. The main trick is not to expect or count on 100% reliability in the pistol until you've put a few boxes of your chosen load through the gun without a hitch. Make sure you shoot it left handed, right handed, with a two-handed death-grip and with a single handed limp-wristed hold. Make sure your gun will go bang and cycle every time before you plan on hunting or defending your life with the gun.
I'll agree with the others. When clean the DE works great when fed jhp's or jsp's that are full power. Mine would start to get sluggish after 50-60 rounds. After a quick cleaning it would be fine. No lead loads or wimpy hand loads for the DE. With a Trijicon reflex sight, mine would shoot 3" at 50 yards (bench rested). Can't think of any other .44 auto.

Hi Everybody! I've been out of circulation for a week, moving house.
As my ole bud ALA DAN said, the LAR Grizzly works well with factory ammo. Telewinz also has a LAR 44 MAG and says his works with either 44 MAG and SPECIAL. Maybe he'll chime in?
The LAR is built along the lines of a premium 1911 type, up sized for the longer cartridge. Very nicely put together but I haven't shot mine enough to know what its limitations, if any, are. Factory jacketed 240 grain seems to work very well from my limited testing.
The Desert Eagle is just too dang big for my paw. YMMV.

The above opinions were the general consensus of my reading. OK, on to researching the 10mm to get a powerful, controllable, reliable auto platform shooting cartridge. A drop in power from the .44 maggie but apparently still very respectable in it's truly intended loadings.

I love my DEP. It's a very fun gun and very shootable.
I've have had only a couple of stoved rounds out of close to 5000 rounds.
It's not really picky about ammo as long as it .44MAG.
I don't ususally shoot more that 4 boxes at a time so maybe 500+ rounds in a session might gum up the works.
It's easy to clean,which I do every time I shoot it.
The only major drawbacks are cost and size.
The cost was a stretch for me but I really wanted one..so I saved.
Size is no problem for me. I'm a big guy with very large hands so it fits me just fine. The wife has a bit of a time with it.

Another satisfied Desert Eagle owner here, no reliability issues to speak of. Although it does push the reliability of my Square Deal B, trying to keep the big gas-pistol fed with an adequate supply of ammo...

isn't? I thought the Grizz had the biggest grip around? I admittedly don't have a DE for comparison, but I DO have the Grizzly (LOVE IT) in .45 Win Mag.
