What's the most that you overpaid for ammo/components?

I got carried away and didn't pay attention to the round count on a box of Aguila .22 ammo. It was $54 dollars but only had 250 rounds per box.

Later I found 40 grain 500 round per box for the same price.

I no longer shoot Aguila. I'm getting a good deal on CCI Mini Mags, Blazers and SV.

 

Ouch!

 

$89 plus tax for magnum small rifle primers (it's all they had). Now they're $100+. Shameful.

 

I paid $40 for 30-30 power points, because I acquired a new to me rifle a year ago with no ammo, and I really wanted to get a deer with it (I did, BTW). It seems most of the more common hunting SP rounds are available around here lately for $30 or so a box of 20. This will typically get you ammo from Norma or some power point or core-lock Remington. I have also played with some 6.5 CM SP's from Selier that were very accurate (sub MOA) and competitively priced, but I didn't shoot a deer with them. I have also seen better prices at my LGS lately than at gun shows, FWIW.

 

I agree. That's something that would keep me up at night.

 

$4.99/50 rounds of CCI SV during the "Great Component Shortage" of 2013 (With daily limit of 2) and same price with current shortage with no limit.

Having stocked up under $20/500 shipped prior to the Great Shortage and 2019, $5/50 gave me a sticker shock. (I am glad 22LR pricing has fallen back in the $30s/500 shipped)

If I was concerned with the cost of shooting and reloading...I would have never chosen this sport in the first place.

 

I started shooting and reloading thinking that it would be cheaper than drag racing.

You'll be terrorizing the ground squirrels in the spring. If you lived a little closer I'd give you all the mini mags you could shoot.

 

That sounds like the perfect job for a PCP rifle! Plus, I don't think there is any regulation of silencers on air rifles here. This fella in South Africa thinks squirrels, dussies (his term for marmots, I'd say), pigeons, geese, and even monkeys are great sport, and helpful to the local farmers. They use .22 cal slugs, as I think anything larger is illegal in South Africa, but they do the job for just the price of the slugs. A friend used to buy several printers each Black Friday just for the ink, and give away the printers.

 

Sigh. 45colt cowboy loads. Even I can't believe how much I was paying for underpowered, smoky fun. But... Like they've said, an empty gun is a lonely gun.

The last year, I've concentrated on more 22lr, and less of the big-boy loads (45colt and 44sp/mag). Not for recoil reduction, but for mechanics/training.

 

$40.00 for 100 rounds of #7.5 dove shot

 

Not that many years ago we could buy 100 count boxes for a bit under $15. With no sales tax in Montana it was a screaming deal.

 

I remember walking into Walmart and looking at their 100 round packs of Winchester target loads for $22.50 and going "ehhh" I can find them a buck or two cheaper elsewhere. Plus, I preferred #6 shot for small game, and so I looked down on the target loads. I kick myself every day.

I did have a hookup at the local Walmart, though. Dude would call me up whenever the manager needed to clearance something and would give me first dibs. Scored a couple 100 round cases of Winchester lead #5 pheasant loads for $9 each just before things went crazy.

 

I'm still buying those $35 a brick of Federal target loads from Walmart. The sporting clay range and one of my regular LGSs charges about $14 a box of 25. One of the super gun stores was charging $60 for boxes of target loads not that long ago
