What's the "Unique" of the rifle powders?

Just about every pistol load chart has an entry for Unique.

Is there an equivalent versatile "one-powder" in the rifle world?

I shoot milsurp and have been very happy with IMR4895. Accurate, clean burning, little flash, tolerates underload well, not position sensitive, flows smoothly, and it appears on the charts for almost every rifle I've used or wanted. In fact right now it's the only powder I'm using.

You can use unique in your rifle loads too, especially with cast bullets.

I think rifle loads span a wider range of ballistics from essentially pistol loads to 50 BMG. Just thinking about the differences in 22-250, 30-06, 45-70, 416 rigby, the WSMs, the Weatherby mags, 338 Lapua, and 700 Nitro I wouldn't imagine there's a powder out there that covers it all. There are a handful though that cover a class of cartridges well (varmint, medium, large, and african game for example). I'd give IMR 4350 the nod for the most load data covering medium to large game cartridges.

I'll go with H4895 as well its a nice well mannered clean burning powder that ive used in all my rifles from 7mm to 45/70

To be like Unique it would have to do a mediocre job in a lot of calibers, meter poorly and burn dirty. Not too many guys are looking for that combination, I'm thinking.

Thanks gentleman.

I am learning a lot from you guys, almost like I was back in school, except this classroom isn't boring.

I use Varget in everything from .204 Ruger up to .45-70. I suspect it has a lot more to do with burn rate than the number or name on the jug.
