A couple of years ago I bought a 500 rnd box of Winchester Dynapoint GT, 40 gr. hollowpoint 22lr. The box was black and marked "Target." It shot OK in my rifles, but I found other ammo that they liked better, so the Dynapoint box sat at the bottom of an ammo can for a couple of years.

I just got a new 10/22, a stainless model with a 22" barrel, and it really likes the old Dynapoint (and that's about it). Went back to Dick's, where I got the Dynapoint, and sure enough, they had a Winchester 40 gr. producct called Dynapoint, but it was in a white box (of 500), and the words "Target" and "GT" were missing. It appears the old stuff had been discontinued.

Does anyone know how the new product compares with the old? Is it a downgraded version of the Target GT ammo? Thanks.

Dynapoint

My Ruger MkII Pistol loves the White box Dynapoint with the red and blue writing but the last two boxes I have bought from Midway have had more duds per box than I have had in all the 6-7 boxes I have put through it before combined. The accuracy seems the same as before but reliability is no where near the same. I cannot give you a comparison with the target variety Dynapoint as I have never found it.

I don't know about the new stuff, but tried the old black box Dynapoint in more than one above average accurate rifle and never really got impressive results. For "budget" target ammo, I get better results out of CCI Standard Velocity target. It is about $26 bucks a brick.

From what I could tell, Dynapoint and Dynapoint GT are different. The GT is supposed to be the high-velocity stuff, I believe.

I haven't tried the white box, but I was upset to find that the black GT box was gone. My Savage loves that stuff. Shooting dimes at 50 yards with bulk box? Yes, please.

Before the Katrina event, the White Box Dynapoint was available locally, and gave me as good results as CCI Standard for lower cost - the most consistent & accurate bulk-pack ammo I have found. But then it was gone, and no online sources had it. Good to see it is back, and will try it to see if it's still as good as before. I have checked with MidwayUSA, and have other choices in standard velocity to try too.

This target was shot at 100 yards with Win.22LR Dynapoint in my Winchester 75T rifle back then.....

I bought a variety of 22 lr to try today, and I got the best results with CCI SV also -- a .5" group @ 25 yds. Second place went to CCI Green Tag, a much more expensive product, with a .75" group.

Never used more than a couple of boxes of the Dynapoint. FWIW, one inexpensive SV load that's impressed me quite a bit is the Aguila 40 gr. stuff.

It used to be a good deal less expensive than CCI, etc. and quite competitive with the Big Box bulk packs. It has proven to be capable of delivering some pretty impressive groups from several of my manual-actioned rifles. Most of my semiautos showed some degree of functional problems with it though. Two particular rifles that like it a lot are my old Marlin 39M, an original Winchester M52 C and my oddball Brno ZOM 451 straight-pull BA. All of them will put 5 rds of it into a tad under 1/2" at 50 yds from a solid bench and bags when I'm up to doing my part right.

I still have a couple of boxes of dynapoint and sadly, I do not own a single firearm whether rifle or pistol that likes winchester. I mainly use it on my buckmark to practice my weak hand shooting.
