What's Your Favorite 1911 & Why?

If DHart's first photo (in post #2) of the blued Series 70 (reissue) Colt didn't grab you, you're not a real 1911 fan. Hands-down, the blued Series 70 is the 1911 for me. Although, a bright nickel Colt in 38 Super is a close second.

Still, I love all my 1911s, and I think the stainless Springfield Armory Mil-Spec is great, love Kimbers (Custom TLE, Pro Tactical, Pro CDP) and any Colt's LW Commander ...

His blued series 70 didn't really catch my eye but his 1991a1 Commander sure did! I almost started salivating over that one!

Anyone know of any websites that sell custom 1911 parts? What I mean by custom is parts the manufacturer doesn't sell for their own pistols.

Brownell's.

If they don't have it. . . . you don't need it.

Specifically, I like the arched main spring house, the standard grip safety, and the curve of the front strap under the trigger guard. My pistols that have bumped or beavertail grips safeties, flat main spring housing or high-cut front straps are not as comfortable to me.

If you'll note on my Gold Cup, it has an arched mainspring housing, plus I added a beavertail grip safety and a commander hammer (plus a new sear, which can't be seen).

I have 'ham hands'. 'Hammer bite' has left a scar in the web of my hand, so, I eliminated the cause of the 'hammer bite'.
The flat mainspring housing, while nice looking, wasn't comfortable, so, a Pachmyr arched mainspring housing went in.

All of the parts are 'drop in' parts from Brownell's. I too, don't like to permanently alter a firearm.
Granted, I did the trigger fitting and polishing with the appropriate jig, again, from Brownell's.
All of the original parts are in their proper place, locked up in my workbench drawer, downstairs.
