What's your favorite 1911?

Always been a big Colt fan but I ventured into Kimbers and left somewhat unimpressed especially with the companies customer service. As of the last couple of years I've settled on Dan Wessons.
Would love a Wilson, Ed Brown or Les Baer but once I became familiar with Dan Wesson's the extra expense negated the need on my budget.

I only have 1 now as I thinned the herd down to my favorite. Springfield 1911a1 stainless full size. I keep it clean and it always satisfies. Would love a Baer but it's way out of my budget.

I started out with a Kimber 1911. That was a mistake. Kimber makes nice rifles (I have two Kimber rifles) but not very good 1911's. My second 1911 is a 45acp Colt Wiley Clapp Government. No beauty queen but is very accurate and reliable. This Colt has 27K rounds through it so far. I love the Wiley Clapp. About 6 months ago I purchased a 1911 Dan Wesson Vigil 9mm Commander.

My Dan Wesson is sweet. I plan to buy a couple of more 1911's in the future and without a doubt they will be Dan Wesson's.

My Ed Brown is my favorite closely followed by my Dan Wesson. I'm unsure if the price difference is worth it to most but the Brown is a nice pistol.

Honestly though it’s the perfect pistol for me. I’m a cheapskate and I like to tinker, so putting lipstick on my RIA 10mm will be fun. This morning shooting it I already figured out that this pistol will stay right where it is. It’s got plenty accuracy (I called almost every shot to be where it was, I just need to whack the rear sight a smidge to the right) and the 10mm is powerful enough to hunt but mild enough to not be unpleasant. I like it. The fact that it was an anniversary gift sweetens the deal.

The Colt Dad carried in the Navy, (from memory, a five digit with a 1918 born on date). This is the one all three brothers were weaned on. The rest of the ones I own are toys in comparison

I have 3 Kimbers. No problems with any of them. But I keep going back to my Para GI expert stainless. Pretty basic pistol but dang that thing shoots.

because i just bought one today, my favorite is the RIA. but i do expect to branch out eventually. last night i spent a long time looking at a dan wesson guardian in 38 super.

I only have one as well....an Auto Ordnance I bought new a few years ago. It is made by Kahr Arms in Massachusetts (wouldn't be surprised if they followed Smith and Wesson to Tennessee but that's a different thread); I haven't had any problems with it at all. Shoots to point of aim with GI ball and has been 100% reliable so far.

Do 1911 derivatives count? If so I do have a favorite: my Colt Combat Commander in .45 ACP, as done by Colt's Custom Shop many years ago. As accurate as a Gold Cup, yet as reliable as a tuned up Combat Commander can be! Mine was part of a limited run (I think it was 150 guns at the time), done for a large Midwest distributor back in late '70s. The Custom Shop really did a great job of fitting, tuning, and finishing this gun and in doing so, made it my All-Time favorite 1911!

Now if your talking strictly 1911s then I would call it a tie between my Colt Lightweight Government and my standard Colt Government, both in .45 ACP. The Lightweight model was purchased for range use and while keeping in mind it's lighter weight, that it could be put into action for CCW while the regular model was mainly for range use and handload testing. The two guns are really well built with great barrel to slide and slide to frame fit as well as very nice fit and finish overall. Sights and triggers are excellent on them.

The owner of the gun shop where I got them told me these were some of the best built Colts to come out of the factory in a long, long time!

I own a WC CQB, a LB PII and a Plain Jane Colt Series 70; all the 1911 platform but all bring shuttle different little detail to the table. The CQB is classic refined benchwork - smooth as butter but you pay for it, the PII spent less time at the bench but it is a very solid workhorse with a lesser cosmetic refinement and the Series 70 is just quintessential, much less refined but a classic. I favor all three for very different reasons.

I can't do favorite's with 1911's anymore. One might be my favorite one week because it served in WW2. The next week I remember I like this one over here because of the Bomars. Then I remember I also like Stainless. And so on.

I've always liked Dan Wesson. So I'll say that.

Yep, me too.

I have more Colts than any other manufacturer so I guess I'm partial to Colts. I prefer shooting a 38/45 Clerke or a 38 Super 1911.

I have 1911's chambered in 7 different cartridges to choose from. Manufacturers include Colt, Kimber, SIG, Springfield, Auto Ordinance, and home assembled (Olympic frames/Caspian slides).

I do not have any of the premium branded 1911's so I cannot make a comparison to my relatively plane jane models.

My Springfield Armory M1911A1 is one solid, well made gun.

I only have 2, both are Springfield Range Officers, a 4" champion, and a 5" and both are 9mm. I absolutely love the 5" target model, it is superbly accurate, utterly reliable, and now my EDC with 10 round Wilson mags. I had a Chiappa 45, but the sights were way off and I couldn't find any replacements so I traded it.
