The only one I own at the moment, a recent trade I made with another forum member. After owning a Dan Wesson ECP for a while I realized that I really prefer a forged frame over aluminum.
Didn’t serve with 4/7 Cav but had orders to report to 4/7 Cav that got changed because for some reason they wanted my slot filled before deploying to SWA and my OBC and SPLC didn’t work with their deployment schedule.
Our 1911s apparently were in better condition in 3//77 Armor, because I remember them shooting pretty good. Ours also got reparkerized, so I know my CMP pistol is not the one I was issued. I do not know what my serial number was.
Attached is a picture of my favorite 1911, that serves as a reminder of the one I was issued.

Ya know it's funny. While I remember my service number 2515355 (before they went to a SSAN) that's about it. Years ago I forgot my issue M14 serial number and haven't a clue what the serial number of my 1911 I had in Vietnam, let alone the manufacturer. I really like the Remington Rand circa 1942 GI take home from WWII I recently came into.
Personally I would change the grips but that is just a matter of personal taste.

Well, the pistol match was against the 4/7th Cav, so they wouldn't have given us the best of the lot . . .

This thread is borderline epic. For me, all of them...for different reasons.
-The factory demo Competition model because it has a ridiculously good trigger & unique stuff that didn't make it into the production models.
-The 70 Series .38 Super because I wanted one since I was a kid & my old man had a Coltguard Commander in .38 Super.
-The NRM 1991 .38 Super because it's the only stainless 1911 in the fold.
-The 80 Series covers two bases: I wanted a 1911 with the same rollmark as TS's pistol in Magnum PI & it's the only 9mm 1911 at present.
-The last 1911 I built with a used ORM 1991 slide (butchered is more like it) and Essex frame. Both were a disaster & after ~70 hours of my time the end result is a two-tone Special Combat knock-off that's never had a hiccup.
-The lightweight CCO I shuffled from a Commander & an Officers Model. My buddy bought the "other side" as a "Tank Commander". This pistol was my carry gun until recently getting switched out for a S&W M&P Compact Optics Ready 9mm. My vision is terrible and I finally caved in to the latest "greatest".

When I bought one of my Series 70 guns it was a choice between a 9mm and .38 Super. That day I opted for the .38 Super. That was years ago and I have yet to find a 9mm I want. Last time a really nice 1942 Remington Rand 1911A1 GI take home came along so that moved my 9mm out further.

The Remington Rand was a nice deal. My attorney called me one day knowing I was a gun type. His cousin's dad was a WWII vet SeaBee who fought in the South Pacific. When Dad passed away his cousin got the gun and the cousin passed away. My friend and attorney was executor of the estate. He wanted to know what the gun and holster were worth. Told him I had to see it. So a few says layer he brought it over. The gun was super clean and the holster was a 1942 GI in great condition so I told him about $2000 total. He asked if I had any interest and what I would pay. I offered $1,300 since wife just had dental work and my gun funds were tight. He said the estate would accept my offer. I was happy and he was happy so I have the gun.
I hit the holster with mink oil and now it looks better.
My only other US Government is an old colt, 5 digit serial number made in 1914 pre dating WWI but the gun is nowhere as nice as the one I posted.

Love that 1917 which is WWI. While my 1914 is not too bad it had Pachmayer wrap around grips which I replaced. The backstrap is lacking the lanyard so I need a GI 1911 backstrap. The metal is overall fair. I paid my uncle's widow $700 for that gun and a Auto Ordinance Kahr Arms GI copy. They both belonged to her father. I also got my uncles 16 gauge Remington Model 11 and I am not a shotgun type.
