I've got three levels of "must-have" guns:

    1. Easy - I want a single-action revolver in .45 acp.

    2. A little harder - And matching carbine.

    3. Dang near impossible - a Hotchkiss 25mm anti-tank gun. Like the one I used to play with as a kid.

-Old threads are still valid threads.

Took me over 4 years to find a Colt Magnum Carry and I got it at a great price, just $425. For a used piece it wasn't used much. Definitely 'off the beaten path' as they were only made for ONE year. And yes, I shoot mine.

I'd like to get a second Ruger Vaqueo in .44 magnum in blue with a 5.5 inch barrel, its hardly 'way off the beaten path' but they were discontinued.

I've also got a strange hankering for a Savage made pocket pistol in .380. I occasionally see one at a gun show but about a year ago I saw one that looked NIB, talk about Buck Rogers piece from another era. That would be a neat conversation piece. (I KNOW I'd take a Colt 1908 .380 over the Savage if the price were the same, but those Savage pistols are just slick.)

Suggest we try to keep this to stuff that is actually available, not mythical movie guns and such.

    Bren Ten Jeff Cooper Commemorative.

They listed at $2000 in 1984. Never seen one come up for sale.

I'd define an "off the beaten track gun" as one I'd carry when going off the beaten track. I have several:

A Colt Woodsman, made in 1938. This is the classic woods bum gun, and one of the most accurate pistols I've ever owned.

A 1939 Winchester Model 70 in .30-06. This rifle, aside from being rugged and chambered for the "do anything" cartridge, has a Redfield peep sight snuggled up under the ocular bell of the scope. And when the scope is off, you can clip load.

A pair of Ruger Blackhawks (5 1/2" barrel and 7") in .45 Colt. These can be loaded to shade the .44 Mag, and are good for any big game hunting task you might undertake.

A few M1911s. My Argentine M1927 wears a Colt Service Ace conversion kit, and I also have a 28-lb Wolff recoil spring for it. So it can handle .22 LR, standard .45 ACP and .45 Super. Add in shot cartridges and flares, and you have a very versatile package.

Mine is simple. I want a break open or falling block single shot rifle in 32 mag or 32 S&W long. A rook & rabbit rifle. And not heavy. Around 5-6 pounds please. With good sights.

I forgot to add that no, I haven't gotten it. I have looked at the NEF 22 hornet and I think it would clean up and could be bored, rifled and chambered. I think.

    Mine is a package deal:

A NIB Glenfield Marlin lever-action in 30-30 w/ deer stock, gold trigger, and factory scope

A NIB Glenfield Marlin 60 w/ squirrel stock, gold trigger, and factory scope

My father had these when I was growing up but sold them about the time I entered my teens. I would like to replace them. This is off the beaten track, as finding any Glenfield NIB around me is impossible. People purchased the guns to use them, and it seems they used them hard.

Guns I wish someone would make:

A replica FG-42 (maybe even one in 7.62x51, slightly scaled-down to match).

Have you all ever noticed how THICK the grips are on a WWII P.38? Each one is nearly as thick as the single-stack 9mm magazine itself! As drooled-over as the .45 ACP Luger is, I actually think it would be a relatively simple proposition for someone to manufacture a double-stack P.38 replica in .45 ACP.

A Sig 210 in .45 ACP would also be amazing.

As for a gun that actually exists, and is very much off the beaten path, I'd love a Walther P.38k.

For me it would be a 9mm snub nose revolver. Like the S&W 642 (I think that is the one with no exposed hammer) My thinking is a 9mm is just .002" smaller then a 38, more snort then most 38s.
Second would be a H&K MP-5 SD Its been 5 yrs since I had to hand that back. Still miss it. I actually would go to $5k if I could (legally) own one in MN.

Third would be a .22lr AR, 9mm upper, 308 upper (all for AR)

Realisticly I am looking at a variety of .22lr conversion for my 5.56 AR.

And, no, I don't have one, and I've never gotten to hold one, either.

There is just something about the M79 that I love... 40mm ammo isn't cheap though... so maybe a 22lr conversion kit to go with it :neener:

    EDIT:

    Holy smokes it actually exists!

At only $8,000 for the gun, and $500 for the conversion kit, its next on my list!!!
