Just curious if what kind of time line we are looking at. It is pretty much a forgone conclusion now that one will be introduced IMO... I don't believe I am fear-mongering because I think that the leftist elite have been waiting for this opportunity and are now drunk with power...

his desk. LOL, he warned you in advance.....

The better question is when do we say enough is enough ? I fear that day never comes.

But Bush has nothing to lose now, so he could veto it just to piss off the Dems.

This belongs in L&P, not here. You should ask a mod to move it. Better yet, ask one to delete it. There're already about 500 threads on this topic.

Okay, Mods please move to L&P please... I do not understand why people that want threads removed bother to post on them though... I think that after the election, asking about a ban is a fair question to ask. I have not seen 500 threads BTW...

That is an entirely individual decision.

But, he won't. The new bill won't be called an assault weapons ban. It will be sold in anti-terrorism terms and have a name like The Patriot Defense Act or something similar. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I agree as to the terminology. It will be "only TERRISTS need assault weapons, 'cause they could shoot up a mall"...etc.

I would think after the problems the last ban caused them and democrats in southern and western states wanting nothing to do with the issue they would have the sense to leave it alone. If they do anything with that issue in the next two years they give something for the republicans to rally on for the presidential election. Now if we get president Hilliary Clinton in two years all best are off but I would be surprised if they press their luck before then.

    rangeruck is correct

First legislative action will be the repeal of Bush tax cuts. Second action will be an assault on the Second Amendmant. Also look for very high new taxes on ammunition and firearms accessories across the board.

Please don't delude yourself - President Bush WILL sign any anti-gun legislation that crosses his desk. Even Ronald Reagan was for some gun control.

I think it'll be introduced closer to election 08.

That way, it can be used as a political tool.

    my guess: 06 MAR 08

Yep. Reagan banned machine guns on May 19, 1986. I remember the NRA saying "don't worry, this won't lead to a ban on semi-autos".

I didn't see this in L&P this morning and started the same thread. :D

Yep, you asked for it, you got it! Better buy your ARs and AKs while you can. They'll wrap the gun control up in an anti-terror bill Bush wants and he'll have to sign it or be labeled soft on terrorism or something. Of course, being a lame duck, but if there's good legislation in there for anti-terrorism that he wants, well....

That's the way they do business in DC. It may be more than just "assault weapons", too. Terrorists can kill with handguns and they're easy to hide as you enter a school or what ever. You name the weapon, I can justify banning it with liberal "logic".

It will take an action by the Islamo terrorists such as suicide bomber or large crowd attack such as school or mall ect. Believe me it will come now especially with the sleepers incountry already. Then the call to disarm will come from both within and out of our country. Probobly within Bush's term so as to finish off the conservatives once and for all. Bad times ahead me bad times ahead.

Do you people honestly think that gun control is the number one issue on the Democrats plate? Are you that egotistical or naive to think that as a gun owner, you are the number one target of all the issues in the USA right now?

I hate to break it to you, but the war in Iraq, immigration issues, and goverment scandals are much bigger issues. Don't get me wrong, I expect something to be introduced eventually. I just don't see gun control as the number one issue for anyone at this time, except for a certain subset of gun owners.
