It was scheduled for as early as yesterday according to news reports and now it's 6:15pm in D.C. today. I don't get CSPAN. Hell, I don't get anything, I am still at "work" :D. Has it been debated at all yet? Anyone following this closely on CSPAN or elsewhere?

TIA!

I received the NRA alert and emailed both of my Senators today, 1 Democrat and 1 Republican and encouraged them to support the amendment. I don't know the status at this time.

From a NRA Alert a few minutes ago:

The U.S. Senate will vote at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow -- Wednesday, July 22 -- on an amendment to protect your right to self-defense. The anti-gunners are now doing everything that they can to defeat this amendment and the vote by your Senators is likely to determine the outcome. So it is critical for you to call and e-mail your Senators now and urge them to support and vote for the Thune-Vitter Amendment.

And in New Jersey the Bergen Record reported the story as follows in part:

New Jersey requires applicants to show a “justifiable need” to carry a concealed handgun, and courts have ruled that a desire to protect property or a generalized fear of crime does not meet the standard, Sgt. Dave Hill of the state police said in a telephone interview.

“Unless you’re an armored car driver or a cop, you have to have documented threats on your life that are actively being investigated by a law enforcement agency, and no other means to protect yourself except a permit to carry,” Hill said.
