Where and how do we go from here?

I've seen a bunch of threads bashing certain organizations, PLEASE don't do that here. If you want to bash something, go to APS.

I would like some advice from others in the gun community. There are a lot of things I would like to change regarding firearms, and there are some things I don't want changed.

For the things I don't want changed (ie. new restrictions, new AWB, etc) I currently write/fax/e-mail my representatives. In certain circumstances (any federal law) I have been known to put signs up around town attempting to let the public know what's going on and how they can stop it. What else can I do?

For the things I do want changed (NPS CCW, removal of Hughes, removal of 922, etc) again I write/fax/e-mail my representatives. However, that hasn't done much.

I know that a lot of the laws on the books wont be changed overnight, however I would like to know what can we as a community do to change the status-quo for firearm owners(even if it takes time)?

In all seriousness, I'm considering running for a small county position to get into the political arena. It probably wont do much, but its a start.(Let's face it, you can't just run for governor without any experience).

I'm also trying to make the general public more aware of gun rights by making gun related materials (t-shirts, caps, holsters, flyers, etc). I really want to do as much as I can, and I'm running out of ideas. This is not a plug, this is an honest question: what can we do?

I have the chance to run for city council right now and I could likely win but I am a government employee therefor restricting me from public office what a bummer but the day I retire I am going to run in what ever area I live in. its a good plan.

I would attempt to host social gatherings that are NOT pro-gun rallys. But more of "fire arms friendly". IMHO most neutrals or antis will red flag you instantly if you seem feverant, or zealous about firearms. But if you get them there, then all of a sudden they are surrounded by OCing people or just positive gun related banter I think you can catch them with their guard down and in a more impressionable mind state.

Talk gun ownership and responsibilities when ever possible when you are out to dinner with friends and relatives. At work during breaks and lunch but do not just talk guns but about liberty and freedom.

Talk about why you (this means all of us) support the 2 Amendment and why everyone should. It is a basic freedom and if we give this one away the rest will follow.

Little by little we can turn things around.

Eric F - glad I'm not the only one. I'm very interested in running but I have to get my work balanced first.

SsevenN - I like your idea about the public gathering... do you have any specific ideas? Most public gatherings right now are "end the war" or "stop immigration". What type of gathering could one have without supporting such issues?

Starship1st - totally with you on that one. I work remotely, but whenever I travel to a client site and we have some down time we discuss hobbies... needless to say most people in my company (which is horribly anti-gun) know my position and beliefs. I've actually taken a few co-workers shooting.
