Murph11680 - Third Generation Shooting Supply has Unique, Power Pistol, and Reloader 22 in stock along with some others.

Excellent! Now I can stop working around a lack of Unique. I have most of a pound, but saw no point in committing to something with no prospect of continuity. An 8 pounder was shipped the same day.

I also bought 2400 and PowerPro 300-MP in enough quantity to feel like they could become mainstays rather than random one pounders found here and there. At the same time, I didn't have to commit the investment in an 8 pounder on anything but the Unique.

What do you mean, adding shipping after you place your order, you don't expect to pay shipping? Or they give you a total with shipping, and then add more shipping?

They don't tell you how much shipping will be when you order....you place your order and you wait to find out how much shipping will cost when your card is billed. Their home page shipping estimate is pretty useless too...an estimate is just that...an estimate. If I am comparing prices, I want to know the final cost, including shipping. Their prices are not good enough to justify the archaic web design of their website.

Seriously it makes me worry about their security as well.

When growing up, pops told me a tale of a man who didnt like powdervalley... I lived my whole life up until this point believing he was a liar as Id never met someone who didnt like powder valley.

Why are you worried about them charging shipping once they actually find out how much it will cost them? Their shipping is always very fair, its usually around $17 each time I order 10k primers. Be happy you are getting your primers in 12 days and had virtually no limit as there are others out there right now on month three waiting for midway etc.

Their shipping prices have always been fair to me also. I guess if you are worrying about a few dollars, it could make a difference. Since I found out about PV, they are either the cheapest delivered, or they had everything I wanted and were still the cheapest.

Somewhere along the line, someone is going to be unhappy about shipping or play games with the system. The local PO said I set a record, when Missouri Bullet sent 68 pounds of lead ingots in a priority mail flat rate box ("if it fits, it ships"). I think it was about 8 dollars. The ladies couldn't lift it to deliver, so I went to pick it up about a mile away. They gave it to me in a nylon reinforced mail crate, so it had handles on it. Ever try to put 68 pounds in that small a space? It was a lesson in density.

Perhaps this is not the correct thread for this question, but can someone enlighten me?

For a friend, I'm looking for 45 colt cast lead bullets. I've always believed cast bullets are one thousandths over. (example 9mm Luger bullets are .356)

Sometimes weight gives it away, what the bullets are intended for (230gr for 45 ACP). But in this case, looking for Colt 45 bullets, I'm finding it confusing with 45 ACP bullets. Both are commonly loaded in 200 grain weights and I'm finding .451 and .452 bullets.

I'm confused. Would be nice if I could get schooled on the difference between the two calibers and how they're sold and marketed as components.

45 Colt cases are rimmed and lead bullets are sized .452" and typically have crimp groove for roll crimping to prevent bullets from backing out of cases with heavy recoiling loads.

45ACP/AUTO cases are rimless that headspace on the case mouth and while lead bullets are sized the same at .452", they do not have crimp grooves as taper crimp is needed to allow case mouth to headspace.

With that said, I have been working up 45 Colt loads with Berry's 250 gr plated FP bullets (no cannelure for roll crimping) sized .452" using various powders (Red Dot, Promo, W231/HP-38, Herco, etc.) and taper crimp as all the loads are cowboy loads around 750-850 fps.

I am waiting on Missouri 250/255 gr bullets sized .452" with crimp groove but since I have 200/230 gr 45 bullets (without crimp groove) I use for 45ACP loads, I will be using them with taper crimp while waiting on heavier MBC bullets. Since all of my loads will be cowboy loads below 1000 fps, I plan on using taper crimp even with bullets that have crimp grooves to extend the life of case mouths.

I'm totally in understanding of the difference in cases and how they headspace. But when it comes to bullets (not looking for cases) I'm just not sure what they're intended for. Many times, a crimp groove perhaps is present but not described, sometimes it's obvious, sometimes it's not.

I guess, without further clarification, I could go on anything in 452 being suitable for Colt and to ask about a roll crimp groove if I want one.

So is that the standard? 452 suitable for Colt and look for crimp groove to suit needs? 451 suitable for ACP only?

I do use some plated 357 loads without cannelure, though I don't like it, I am familiar with that idea and way of loading with a taper crimp in light loads.

But these Colt loads are for a beginner who is not in complete understanding of the amount of pressure that can be applied. I.E., I'm looking for dummy-proof bullets that don't require any knowledge beyond the load book.

If they have crimp groove and sized .452", they are 45 Colt (or Long Colt) bullets.

Hate to confuse you even more but some vendors like Powder Valley will specify the bullets as to what they are for (45ACP vs 45LC) and the BHN/softness of the lead bullets (12/18 BHN for 45LC and 18 BHN for 45ACP).

I'm not confused by hardness. But I rarely see hardness in the description. A lot of times I can tell by the bullet description or shape. A hardness rating is a sure bet, it's colt load.

But many, many times I see descriptions like this:

.451 200 gr lead cast RN (no mention of groove or hardness)

Round nose can be anything, 451 can be for either. Keith bullets, wad cutters, anything with a cone shape is LC. But there's a lot available without much of a description. I'm on board with descriptions when the nomenclature suggest auto or revolver.

I'm totally open for more schooling, specifically is 452 a LC bullet and is 451 an ACP bullet? It appears that's not a hard/fast rule. Or is it?

My son, who's not the subject of this 45LC discussion has my load books, so I can't re-read presently.

Perhaps someone else can better clarify.

All the lead 45 ACP/45 Colt bullets I have seen advertised have been sized .452" not .451".

I can see it could be frustrating if the vendor don't supply enough description/information for their bullets. And contacting/emailing them for clarification could be difficult at the present time with most of them working on backlog of orders.
