Where can I buy MARPAT BDU's?

I've not seen the real deal in stores yet, but you can find some on eBay. If you don't want to shell out the big bucks for the real stuff, you can get some decent replicas if you do a Google search.

The real ones may be hard to find for a while. The Marines aren't even due to completely change over until 2005. I'm not sure they are even issuing them in bootcamp yet.

MCRD Parris Island is issuing MARPAT to all recruits already.

So, the fastest way to get a few sets would be to sign up with the USMC. :)

Closed as OT...

Major Surplus and Sales has some MARPAT stuff, as does a place in Virginia called Full Metal Jacket. So far I haven't been able to find genuine milsurp BDUs or M65s in MARPAT, only utility covers, boonie hats, laundry bags, and tool bags. Major Surplus does sell BDU knockoffs in MARPAT

Wow! Lendsringer got trumped by Runt!

Sha-zam! Don't see that very often. :uhoh:

I thought the USMC was keeping their MARPAT pattern very closely held, they put a copyright on it, and other branches of the DoD weren't even allowed to use it. And the stuff is already out in surplus stores? Or are they just close copies?

:p

I've got a mental picture of my two boxers when they were puppies - both tugging away for hours on opposite ends of a piece of rope - "My rope!" "My rope!" "No, MINE!" "MINE!"

Heck - this time tomorrow, this thread might actually travel over to the Blackpowder forum. :D

Hurray for Runt! :D

Just give mean ol' lendringser a big :neener: for his efforts! (Just kidding, lenny, ol' pal, ol' buddy ;) )

Thanks for the replies, guys. The MARPAT's actually for a friend I go airsofting with. I'm perfectly happy with my old woodland cammies. I forwarded the suggestions and links to him already, and I'm sure he'll appreciate them.

Sha-zam!!

The cool thing about MARPAT is that almost no civilians have them.
I was quite popular at the last airsoft skirmish I attended wearing a set. :D

I'd be surprised if you found any official sets out there yet due to the fact that most Marines don't even have them issued yet, and have a hell of a time finding them if they want to make a personal purchase.

OTOH, I just got an email from my chain of command warning us that there were some good fakes floating around out there and not to buy them. It seems the only differences between the real and fake are that the real have EGAs printed throughout the pattern, and also have a 'Made Expressly for the USMC' tags on them. Regardless, if we buy fake, we're SOL--they're not authorized.

It's out there...

PS. Since you're looking for Marine gear, you might as well use the right terminology: They're Cammies, not BDU's. The Army's got BDU's, and for the sake of board propreity, I'll leave editorial comments concerning them out of this post ;)

Correct Teufelhunden, they are cammies. Unless you can find the old fashioned, heavy material, Elvis collared ones. Then they're utilities, and you're considered Salty.

Still, a cover is a cover.

Unless I'm mistaken, Full Metal Jacket is the military surplus store located below Potomac Arms here in Alexandria. Very interesting! (I guess living between the Pentagon and Quantico has some advantages.) I'll have to do some snooping this week.

We had a few Marines in picking up parts for MTVRs the last couple days and two of them were wearing the new stuff, One desert color, the other more the regular camo color. The pattern is pretty neat, the fellow I talked to said the pattern is supposed to be hard to pick up by satellite or aerial observers.
I asked our outside product support guy who handles the Marines to see if he can get some for me, we'll see what happens.

Teufelhunden,

I tried editing the BDU/cammies mistake in the title, but the time limit on editing posts already expired. Sorry. :(

PUMC, do you also believe that someone who's not in the Army shouldn't wear Army BDUs?

When I did rifle clinics with the MTU at Stone Bay, it was noted that some of the groups who came through there wore military BDUs with no name tapes or insignia of any kind, and it was clear to the instructors that they weren't military -- at least not US military. What would you have wanted them to wear?

I think it's slightly disrespectful to wear surplus military clothing with unearned rank or unit insignia, but aside from that, camo is camo to me.

The MARPAT has EGAs printed into the pattern, and on its own, the EGA is something to be earned. Until you go thru Boot or OCS, you don't have the privilege of wearing the EGA.

I don't care if you wear a "knock-off". That's inevitable I suppose. But to wear something that is designed for, and ONLY for the Marines just isn't right. He hasn't earned the title.

Maybe I'm a lil sensitive on the issue, but I stand firm. MARPAT = Marine Pattern... not a Marine.... don't wear it.

"Army" BDUs are generic, and as such I don't see any problem with any ole Joe wearing em.

Question:

How are they working the green side corpsman? Do they get the new pattern cammies, with the EGL? Or just the new pattern, without the EGL?

And what about those of us in the dungaree navy, who happen to get to go train with Marines? (I've done it; got to wear cammies, set up Marine style, while I shot the Marine KD rifle and pistol range.)

I like them alot, but they look a lot like the stuff the "old" soldiers wore in the movie Soldier, at the end.

MARPAT on Non-Marines

I read a long thread somewhere that had mucho participation from Marines and SEALs that basically defined the new MARPAT uniform as Marine only gear, same as dress blues or the SEAL insignia will only be worn by team folks, no wannabes will be tolorated.
There was definite discussion of serious butt whooping to pretenders, there's a war on folks, Ya wanna be a Marine, Sign UP!
It's what I read and agree with, men that survive Airborne, LRRP, Ranger, SF or whatever get to wear the cool hats, jump wings whatever, the MARPATs are for the jarheads only but might be on loan to those SEAL/Frog fellers even if they did have to be rescued from a silly Alaska bush exercise by......The Freaking Air National Guard.....snicker, sniff sniff.

I just looked at the site link. WHAT A FRIGGIN JOKE! This guy is a real piece of work. If he had used some of Riches other pics, or if he had gotten a set for himself, he would know that his little yellow and blue colored EGA's he super-imposed over the pattern are NOT how the EGA is worked into the pattern. There are actually little, VERY distinct EGA's printed onto the material. I have a set of each and you can clearly make them out. Some people need to get with it.

Now if you want the MCCU's join the Marines. But, if you want the pattern for recreational uses (it is a VERY effective pattern BTW) get yourself a set of the one made in civilian cut that Major Surplus has. I also got a set of those for wearing in the field (I am not a Marine any longer, and I dont want to screw up the set of MCCU's I have in my collection) and while the stiching may not be perfect, they work.

I can see why people want them, they reall do work well in most environments. I can also see why collectors like myself want them. They represent a definitve change in the military's approach to individual camo. I really dont care who wears them. Sure I earned the EGA and it has meaning to me. But to put the EGA on a uniform in such a manner just shows how much power the Sgt. Major Mafia still has in the Corps (the same group who said the Marines could not have the M-4, because it was too short to preform drill and cerimony with). They wanted it that way and they got it. BFD. They later came back and pitched a fit that every other EGA is upside down (it was done that way so that no matter how the material was cut, some would be correct) and the Commandant had to come back and tell them TFB, thats the way it was and thats the way it would stay.

On the other hand, if you want them so you can play dress up and think you are a Marine you deserve whatever @$$ kicking you get from a real Marine.
