My FM Hi-Power came with 1/2 wraparound finger-groove grips in the Pachmeyer style.

I hate them - the finger grooves are the wrong size for my big paws.

Where can I get a plain set of checkered wood grips for it?

I've checked all the online places I could think of with no luck (although I did find a place that would make me a set of custom engraved faux ivory grips.... )

Thanks!

Do yourself a favor and get some Spiegel grips from Cylinder and Slide, or another reputable dealer. They cost a bit more but IMO they are the best. You'll forget what you spent when you wrap your hands around 'em. I have a set on each of my 3 HP's. You won't regret it.

thanks for the feedback.

I may also try that Hakan guy everyone is talking about - a set of grips in flame birch would be pretty sweet!

Lennyjoe - once i get some new ones I'd be perfectly willing to sell/trade/whatever my old ones to you.

Nice, but pricey, Hi Power grips can be found at www.esmeralda.cc.
I just read an article about them in American Handgunner and visted the site last night, so have no experience with them.
They look good though.

These guys are correct.

If you want some spegel style grips for a good price, and you aren't completely insistent on wood, then look at the Butler Creek (Uncle Mike's) grips that they make. They are black checkered rubber, if you can deal with that, and they are made from a mold of Spegel grips. I highly recommend, if you don't absolutely have to have wood. If you do have to have wood, then who can blame you? :D

If you want the best, contact Craig Spegel (503) 368 5653 He makes the best hand checkered BHP grips available, his presentaion grade are unmatched and most book match perfectly.

Sometimes you can find his grips here also www.pickagrip.com

Hogue's don't quite honor the beauty of a BHP and are a little over priced for what you get.

Ahrends is similar to Hoge at a higher price and are also machine checkered.

Navidex grips are pretty good and can be found at www.Brownells.com

You could also try these http://www.woodgrips.com/browning_hi-power.htm but I've never owned any so I can't really say.

For a cheap pair, buy a beat up pair of stock BHP wood grips for $10 or less and sand the checkering of , shape with swell, and refinish. Bren

Hogue makes good grips, but I also agree that "THE" grips for the Hi-Power are the Spegel grips!! And i've tried both on a couple of Hi-Powers.

Go Spegel!!

Both Eagle and Ajax make grips for the HP, and both also make Ivory, real or fake; and mother of pearl, real or fake.

Pooh,

Try Boone Trading Company for a set of faux ivory grips.

They're very good looking, and they're very cheap.

I picked up a set for my Model 28 4" a few years ago and have been VERY happy with them.

Here you go, set B upper left is for the High Power.

You can probably get a set uncheckered if you want to wait for awhile.

Hell, the checkered grips are only $30!

I may get a set.

Bought these Navidrex Dymondwood at Brownells . They feel great and give good control . Also , Brownell's customer service is tops !

I have a set of both Esmerelda and Spiegel grips for my 1911's. Both are great grips no complaints, but were I to buy another set, I would buy the Spiegels. I got mine from pick a grip ( posted above ) they were easy to work with, went over and pulled out three sets I was interested in, scoped them out for me and gave a judgement call on how they look compared to the other pairs I saw on line. The pictures are a little deceiving but get you in the ball park of what you want. The Spiegels are about 40-50 bucks cheaper, and the only difference is he doesn't put serial numbers on his grips, quality wise the was no difference.

I have the black navidrex and they are so thin I'd swear it wa a single stack....but I have to admit, after looking at Guy's grips, I kind of like them better...but I did get these for free from a friend on the P7 board so I can't complain.....and yes, that ugly C&S safety is going out for black T to keep the all black tactical look....

I have an extra pair of Black Navidrex grips for the BHP, if anyone's interested. I bought a pair of Spegel's (highly recommended), so I don't need them anymore.

Nice looking pistol Serpico .
I have the black Navidrex thin grips also on this Novak HP . I like both grips . Both have the Hi Power "just feels right" feel if you know what i mean . :D
