I set up an order with Midway for a Classic Turrett, safety prime, 9mm dies, 2 extra turretts, pro-autodisk, riser, and double disk kit. I almost finalized my order and i noticed that not only was shipping a little high, but that I'd be paying an extra $8 to ship JUST the safety prime at a later date, in addition to the original shipping charges. After looking some more, I also found that they refuse to keep your order until all the products are in stock!

What are some recommendations for online vendors who maintain good inventory, or are willing to either eat the double shipping cost, or are willing to place a hold on an order until it can be shipped in its entirety?

natchez

is pretty great. in some instances they may be a few pennies more but the shipping is incredibly fast and reasonable. they are also helpful and specialize in shooters needs. i just got a package about 8pm tonight, my new case trimmer :D

Benedict you're a celebrity.:D
Vitamin G I was wondering how much shipping was for your order from Midway. I just ordered a complete Lee turret setup from Midway and shipping was $12 for the order. That didn't seem to bad to me.

No, it's not, and I don't recall getting "hosed" by Midway on shipping.

But I do agree that not holding an order (for a reasonable amount of time) so an unavailable item could be included, thereby probably saving on shipping costs, is NOT a thoughtful thing to do to customers.

In the end, though, it's UPS/FedEx charging what they do...shipping prices are high...they charge that much I guess because they damage so many packages, so they have to pay for inept/careless package-handlers causing excessive damage claims to be filed. Remember the problem UPS had with their employees stealing handguns, hence their "no more ground shipping on handguns" policy.

THEY are sorry shippers but OTHERS have to pay for it.

Don't know if DHL shipping rates or package-handling are any better.

We're really a captive "audience" to these monkeys and at their complete mercy...there is not enough competition and what few companies there ARE in the business are more alike than different.

Midsouth shooters supply (as Dave mentioned above) has free shipping going on now, for orders over $150.

I just bought a lyman t-mag II press, some bullets, a bunch of targets... free shipping.

Another vote for midsouthshooterssupply. I recently order a Redding Boss from Midway and then stumbled on midsouth's web page. They had the same press for $9 less.

So I ordered a bunch of stuff from midsouth. They didn't have it all in stock and asked me if I wanted them to hold the order till they could ship it all at once.

Good bunch of folks.

The answer is simple. Midway has a feature on their site that allows you to be reminded when an out-of-stock item arrives. If you were willing to have them hold the order until the safety primer set-up arrived, then hold back on the entire order until they notify you that the safety prime came in! I do that all the time for my orders there.

I get 90% of the stuff I order on-line from Midway. Mainly because I like the way their website is set up. It's so darn easy to see what they have, then the reviews really tell you a lot about how the product was received.

Missouri is 2 days from here by UPS,(maybe not THIS time of year though). I've never had a problem with damaged packaging. My only gripe is those damn plastic peanuts! Anybody want some???:cuss: :banghead:

although my recommendation up above was Midsouth Shooters (due to free shipping on orders over $150), my favorite online seller is definately Midway. Like snuff, I get at least 90% of my stuff from Midway.

Their website (and associated reviews of products) beats all other websites hands down.

For a classic turret, proautodisk, riser, 9mm dies, safety prime, and 1k of 9mm, the website quoted me $31, plus another $8 shipping after the safety prime was back in stock.

Pass.

I'm at work, so i'll check out the suggestions tonight. Thanks again all!

One thing I don't like about Midway's website, is that your "cart" is apparantely kept on the computer you used when you "add to cart". With other websites, when I add stuff to my cart while on my home computer, my cart will still show up when I use my computer at work.

Vitamin G,
I just purchased a setup very similar to yours yesterday and ran into the same thing with Midway and their shipping. It's a shame they don't have a "Ship when complete" box or something - if they did, they would have had my business. I ended up ordering everything from F&M Relaoding (www.fmreloading.com). They had everything I wanted except calipers, which I can get locally. It worked out better because shipping and prices were lower with them. They don't carry every brand of everything so they don't have the overhead Midway has, presumably. I also looked at Natchez, but I hate navigating their site. I've bought ammo from them in the past, but the navigation kills me.

Now I just have to build a bench and I'll be good to go.
