What the Brick?! I can't find any 550 count bulk Federal 22LR ammo here in either the outskirts of Savannah or in Athens, GA. :banghead: There is plenty of Winchester "X-pert" ($14) & Remington "Golden" ($13) Bulk boxes, yet the classic Federal is no where to be found.

Rincon and Pooler GA Wal-Marts has a Federal box of 325 count for almost $15.00. I'm not paying 4.6 cents per shot for 22LR.

My 10/22 and MarkIIs pretty much require Federal to function consistently.

I know the prices have skyrocketed, but I didn't expect a shortage! :cuss:

I was told that Academy sports and Wal-mart here in Athens can not special order ammo (That's new to me!). So, where can I get Federal Ammo online at a decent price? (Probably shouldn't ask this one, but) What could be a good substitute besides Federal 510?

Thanks Guys!!

1100 rounds of it went home with me yesterday.

Nowhere near you though. Sorry! There's plenty of it around here. Better prices than you have too, actually. I bought 2 of the 550 round boxes. 11.97, plus tax.

The Winchester here is 12.87 and the Remington is about the same.

I know your pain, my Marlin 60 doesn't seem to like anything without a copper jacket. Soft lead bullets keep jamming.

Haven't seen any brand specific shortage around here, in .22.

I usually grab whatever's cheapest, and a couple weeks back it was a 550 round box of Federal.

feddy also makes 711, and automatch, also look for the single box red on the outside , american eagles, which is feddy ammo, flat base. it is good and accurate. if not that, look for some Aguila bricks, or I tell you , the winny wildcats or experts are the only other bulk ammo i would use.

Oh yeah, try ammunitiontogo.com, and don't be afraid to email them , as their site is not complete. I know for a fact he is one of the few dealers in America, that carries the entire Eley ammo line, which is the finest in the world.
Aguila is also the same as eley, but it is assembled in mexico. Lastly , Golden Eagles, which is also Eley, but is assembled in America. Eley is England , in case you don't know.

Here in AZ there's plenty of it. I've gone through 6 bulk packs in the last 5 months and have 4 in reserve...need to get some more.

That 325 round box is the Federal Auto Match. It's a step up in quality from the regular bulk stuff and was made for semi-autos. Treat yourself to a box. You might be surprised how well your guns like it. I keep a box in my ammo box and shoot a few mags through now and then when I want a little smaller group than the bulk is giving.

I, like a lot of others out there, buy every single box of Federal Bulk pack they have in ineventory whenever I go to Wal Mart. You have to keep checking back on a weekly basis. It sells fast once they get it in.

I started this in January and the price has risen over $3 a box during this time, thats like a 33% increase.

I'll stop stocking up once I get to around 30,000 rounds which I figure would be a lifetime supply for my uses.

Soooooo hording eh?

I knew that was going on, but the wallyworlds here don't even have a shelf space for the Federal 550 bulk boxes now. That's whats got me upset. It's like they don't plan on getting any, and don't want to trouble themselves to special order any for me. :fire:

+1 for the Federal Auto Match ammo. Excellent stuff. Zero FTF's in a rifle that was kinda picky about all the other bulk ammo I had used and accuracy bordered on excellent! The only problem is my kids like it too and shoot it all up. I'm hiding my next box:neener:

A lot of it has gone in my closet. Yet the local Walmart seems to have it in stock anyway. I'm going to keep working on that issue. :)

$11.97 per 550 at local Walmart as of last week.

I have not checked in a week or so, but there has not been a shortage of 22 ammo at the Walmarts I frequent. There are something like 8 Walmarts within 30-40 miles of me. I generally buy the Federal Champion 510's which are sold in 50-round boxes and leave the bulk packs for others.

Sometimes they do sell out of their stock. People are buying 500 or 1000 rounds now instead of picking up just enough for a day or two's shooting. Ofcourse, for some, that is a day or two's shooting. Same thing happened with other commodities that have a long shelf life in the late 1970's to early 80's. Price is going up, so people are buying now rather than waiting for a specific need and storing it.

In the past, I bought a few bricks at a time when the price was right, now I buy in case lots if that gives you any idea and that does affect supply.

mine hates the winchester and james 2 out of 10 shots. The Golden Bullets don't jam very ofter, but a few shots sound like duds. Of course stuff CCI makes I have not had any failures. in my 10/22. I just got 2 bricks of golden from Wally here in Bainbridge, GA and they had plenty of every other brand. I think it is your local stores that are slacking

My Wally World still has it.

If you want to go the online route, check out cheaperthandirt.com. They dont' have bulk Federal right now, though I did get some from them a couple of months ago. With shipping it was slightly more than Wally World, so I get it there, now.

You can also check out the deals at http://gun-deals.com/ammo.php?caliber=.22%20LR

I picked up 2 Federal bulk and 2 Win Xpert a week ago. Local Wally had those and Remmington in stock from 11.97 to 13.87.

I haven't tried the Winchester in my Marlin 60 yet, hope it works as I have over 1000 rounds of it now. If not, I guess my nephew gets it all for his Savage boltie.

I tried the Federal American Eagle High Velocity rounds the other day and really liked them. I have a Remmington 597 (which is known to be picky on ammo) and they worked perfectly.

However, they did cost me $19.99 for a box of 500.

You do that too? I've taken to hitting two different WalMarts a month... :D

I've been hoarding it up here near Atlanta - still get the 550 rd bulk packs of Federal for $11.97 + tax.

If you're having trouble finding it, ask for the dept. manager at Wal-mart - at the very least they should be able to tell you what day more will come in.

I've wiped my local one out on several occasions, and especially relish it when I catch them leaving the sealed cases on the floor...which promptly go into my shopping cart. :D

I can't help you on finding it but I echo the idea of buying a lot of if when you finally do find some.
