I was just at my local Cabela's and there were zero Mini-14's or AR-15's in stock. Same for Bud's Gun Shop (www.budsgunshop.com). No black rifles. No rifle that holds over 10 rounds in .223/5.56. VERY few semi-auto's. A couple M1A's.

Seems the same all over the net. You'd think a ban had already been passed.

I understand folks buying after the election, but why wouldn't stores be keeping inventory? There is still business to be done....or is this just a marketing ploy?

I've seen plenty of AR and AK types in my area. Lots of AK mags too. What I am not seeing are AR 20 and 30 round magazines. Especially PMAGS. I just hope Magpul catches up before we get too far into '09.

As a side note, the local gunshow I frequent now and then was by far the busiest I have ever seen it. Seems lots of people were out buying guns in honor of our new president-elect :D .

Same here. The local Cabelas, all DFW Academy stores, and most of the mom and pop gun shops are totally sold out of AR15's, due to the recent election.

I had a guy who wanted one of the camo Remington ARs the Monday before election day. I called and placed the order, no problem.

A friend of the guy decided he wanted one on the Wed. after election day. I called to try and order one . . . at 3 distributors they were sold out, of everything. Colts, RRA, Bushmaster, etc. Not a one left in the warehouse. Believe me, if we could get them, we'd order them, because nothing is selling better.

"I didn't know Cabelas sold NFA assault rifles. I know they sell semi-auto AR 15s, but not assault rifles."

I was thinking the same thing.

"Assault rifles" are by definition capable of selective fire. AR15's and AK47 style civilian rifles are not assault rifles. Please don't succumb to the same ignorance that the anti's use to sway the opinion of idiot soccer moms everywhere.

I'm glad that everyone is out... more gun owners, more evil black rifle owners, etc. it's an inconvenience because I wanted to pick up another lower receiver before Jan 20th, but I'm damn glad I have a built up AR15 already.

The local shop that stocks mini-14s and ARs is WAAAYYYY backordered. Academy has a few ARs left but they are the 1400 dolla mossy oak printed kind. Fals and M1As arent flying off the shelves as fast, due to much higher price im sure. HD/SD shotguns are starting to get scarce locally too.

Rifles aren't the only thing dealers are selling out of... My local dealer ran completely out of Glock 17s, 19s and 21s. He has plenty of Springfield XD pistols left over because they aren't selling. It seems 3 people in my area have been victims of accidental shootings from the XDs and there is talk about a class action lawsuit of some kind being developed or planned.

Bought my semi-autos before the election. I am simply contributing to the ammo and magazine shortage.
yup +1

I am buying face to face these days. So far, I've been able to buy everything I want at reasonable prices (but not bargain). Find a local gun forum in your state. I am finding networking to be the way to go. There are people out there that have AR lowers they bought at gun shows just collecting dust. Seek them out.

I was at a little bitty gun show Saturday and there were all kinds of HSR's (Homeland Security Rifles) for sale.

Some at grossly inflated prices.
One dealer had three DPMS lowers with triggers in them, but no stock, buffer tube, or PG.
Asking $500 a pop!
EEYOOOOWWWW!

Others, not so much.
Saw one new R-15 at MSRP.

And another old guy who was selling new DPMS rifles & carbines at close to dealer cost. Said he was getting out of the business and didn't want his wife & kids selling them at a garage sale for 100 bucks apiece!

For the most part, if I had wanted a Black Rifle, I could have had several of them at reasonable prices.

RE: Strict definitions

Forgive the egregious grammatical error in the O.P. I'll rephrase for the sticklers among you:

"Where o where have the semi-automatic rifles in .223/.308/7.62x39mm/etc. that accept high capacity magazines and muzzle brakes/flash hiders gone?"

P.S. I'm glad I got mine already.

This is from classic arms. He has more to say as he usually does but these are cold numbers.

LET ME GIVE YOU SOME PERSPECTIVE.
IN THE THIRD QUARTER OF THIS YEAR, ( JULY THRU OCTOBER )
WE SOLD THE FOLLOWING
7.62X39 AMMO................361 CASES
AK 30 RD MAGS.....................................783
AK RIFLES (ALL TYPES ) .........................243

BY COMPARISON, IN THE 10 DAYS SINCE THE ELECTION WE HAVE SOLD

7.62X39 AMMO................1218 CASES
AK 30 RD MAGS.....................................3855
AK RIFLES (ALL TYPES ) .........................572
THAT IS IN ADDITION TO THE AR RIFLES, GOLANI RIFLES, TANTALS, AND OTHER FIREARMS THAT HAVE ALSO SOLD LIKE WILDFIRE.

We bought all of 'em. I went to a gun show this weekend and what was left was fair game for price gouging.

This all reminds me of when the last case of Wonka bars was auctioned off in Britian. :)
