I want to stock up on some cheap .22 long rifle ammunition for plinking.
Is there anywhere that sells it for cheap in bulk (like 3000+ rounds)? I’ve searched but haven’t been able to find it offered in bulk anywhere.
Thanks.

Wal-Mart carries 550 round Federal boxes for pretty good prices last I checked.

Don't feel weird about buying 5-10 boxes at a time. People here do it all the time. :)

Try a local gun store. At least one of the local stores offers a 10% discount if you buy a case or more at a time.

Walmart is also one of my sources for ammo.

Wally-World is by far the cheapest place for bulk .22 ammo. It aint as cheap as it was a year or so ago, but still very cheap compared to centerfire ammo. I think I gave $11 or $12 for 550 Federals last time. Not that long ago it was $8.99! But, like I said, it sure has not gone up like centerfire has.

Talk to the sporting goods manager at Wallyworld, the manager not the pinhead teenager behind the counter, and he/she will order you how many ever cases of ammo you want, at the same price.

At my local Wallyworld, most of the bulk .22LR is 36gr (Federal, Winchester, Rem); the only 40gr I could find was a 325rd box of Federal's Automatch, which at $14 and change is no bargain.

Walmart Federal boxes of 550 are going here for $11.87. I have purchased six boxes so far...hope to get at least six more soon.

I figured prices will just continue to go up.

oh ok. So they haven't shot up in price too much then. It still seems like a better deal to just get Federal bulk pack at Walmart if that's the price elsewhere too.

I buy the Federal Champion 510 (blue box) at WalMart for $1.28 per box of 50 so about $12.80 per brick. It's a 40 grain bullet. That ammo to go is no bargain.

Walmart sellthey're 550 Federal for approx $12 +tax. Rounds out to be about $110 for 5000 rnds before the govt'scut. Closest I've seen local for any of MY dealers is $19 for 500rnds.

Unfortunately the answer is Walmart!
It was 8.96 last year..now it's 11.87! That's a 22ish% increase overnight!

Another vote for Wal-Mart Federal bulk. It is by far my favorite .22lr...Probably because it is the only (bulk) .22 ammo that that works in all of my .22's.

And it is the most accurate(for me at least).

When they ask you if it is for rifle or handgun, open the box and say "this one is for rifle, that one is for handgun, this one is for rifle ..."

LOL, that's a good one. I usually say, "hmm, well what is today again?"

It's hard to beat WalMart for $13 bricks of Federal 550, but I find that $16 bricks of CCI Blazer from Sportman's Warehouse are much more reliable in my Buckmark pistol, and they give a 5% discount on cases.

8.99 to 11.98 (current price at walmart for federal) is an increase of 33.5%. Of course you're 8.99 starting price is a bit high, 2.5 years ago it was 7.97 a box is an increase of 51%.

Same time period 10.98 for 9mm WWB to todays 16.88 is an increase of 53%.

.22lr certainly HAS gone up "like center fire has".

Ammo costs across the board are up about the same percentage. With reloading costs up an even higher percentage.

At this point the only thing I buy from walmart is .22lr. Places like Cabelas, Dicks, Academy and Gander have the same or cheaper prices on most of the ammo when it goes on sale. I'm not a walmart fan.

11.87 for 550 bulk hp vs 1.28 for 50 510s at Walmart here. I think the 510 is worth the diff. The other alternative is Fed 714 at Dicks for 19.99/500 but with the $10 coupon online that's 15 per and better std vel ammo.

The cheapest Fed Bulk Ammo has been in the past 12 years or so at the wallyworld's here is 8.96. Prior to the last jump of some 3.00 I loaded upat the 8.96 price. I wish all my investments paid off like that one!
