Where to find new stocks for my Marlin 1894?

I've got an old style Marlin 1894 in .357mag (by old style, I mean before they added the safety) and it's a sweet shooter. I had an action job done on it last year and I love the little gun.

I bought the gun used a few years ago, and the stocks were pretty plain. They have had a lot of wear and tear, there's not checkering, and the wood wasn't all that pretty to begin with. Who's got the link of somewhere on the web that could supply me with a nice set of checkered stock and forend for my poor, neglected, little lever gun?

i have a 444P that david clay at DRC custom gun sights did for me and i had them fit a very fancy walnut stock on it. i think 1 level below exhibition grade cost me $370 for the wood. it was semi inlet and had to be finished.

Why not just contact Marlin? I've bought standard stocks from them before, and their prices were reasonable.

Marlin has always used pretty good wood, so I suspect that a good cleaning and refinish might be enough. If you want checkering, there are several folks who can do that. At one time, Marlin would custom checker any of their stocks for a reasonable price; I don't know if they still do or not, but a letter to them might resolve your problems on getting a new checkered stock or having the old one refinished and checkered.

What Jim says. You may want to buy a checkering tool and practice on some scraps. After you become good, go for it. Working on them is half the fun of ownership. The other half, of course, is shooting them.
