Hello all.
I just booked a trip to Vegas with two non-gun friends. I plan on taking some of my time out there to go off on my own and go shooting since I heard that you can shoot full auto. Do you have any suggestions or names of places to go and rent some fun time near Las Vegas?
As a side note I can't wait to go. This will be my first time in Vegas and the trip is paid for by my Cousin and her friend. I will be acting as bodyguard for most of the time but who can say no to a mostly free trip to Vegas and all I have to do is follow them around the city to all the clubs and casinos to make sure that no guys mess with them on their request. (been doing it my whole life now)
Any suggestions on a rental range and also an approximate price range would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure there's an indoor "rental range" about a mile off of the strip. It's right on one of the main streets, Tropicana I think.

If any of you are ex-military and can get on bases, Nellis AFB has terrific ranges.

American Shooters Supply, on Arville Road, between DI and Spring Mountain Road. Great range, good rental gun selection. (At least, they used to have. Been a while since I've been there.)

Does anyone have informaiton about shooting at Nellis? From what I've gathered they only have skeet ranges...I'm in the military and have no problems going to Nellis, I've just never been there (I'm in the Army). What are thier shooting facilities (regs, hours, quality?)

I too wuld like to know where to shoot around LV. aparrently theres no BLM land around. I dont like those indoor ranges, which LV is burtsing at the seems with. Mainly because they cater to mostly tourists (i.e. "ive never shot before," or "I'm japanese, gimme a machine gun!"). And they dont have memberships. Besides, i dont like the cramped nature of indoor raneges anyway.

Discount Firearms on Highland west of the strip.

As for shooting out in the desert, see link below which shows areas where it is verboten (blue and green). Areas not indicated (a lot of land) are pretty much OK unless of course you're out by Lake Mead, Mojave or on USAF land, Test Site land or any other areas like Valley of Fire (State Park)

Here's the County link to the proposed "world class" shooting park they have planned for the NW section of the valley. Looks like it might finally come to fruition...

(edited to add link to Nellis)
Re Nellis...

Sweet I didnt know about the public range proposal.

Discount Firearms on Highland is a nice rifle/hundgun range. Very clean with nice people. Bring your own ammo if you want.

I also go to a range on Blue Diamond Road for handgun/shotgun. Not nearly as nice but is the only place I know of that allows shotguns. TMJ handgun ammo only and you must buy their shotgun shells.

The Gun Store on Trop is one place you can go. They have 8-10 various machine guns for rental. If you want to shoot a belt fed machine gun on an indoor range.............this is the place.
Before you come to Las Vegas, check this page in the Hometown section of AR15.com: http://www.ar15.com/forums/forum.html?b=8&f=22
You might happen to be in town on a day when there is a machine gun match at Desert Sportsmans, or one of the Desert Buffet shoots which are a bunch of guys on that AR15 forum. They go out in the desert near Sloan: lot of full auto stuff, suppressors, tannerite.........................
The machine gun match director at Desert Sportsmans is Tony Dee: he works part time at The Gunstore on Trop. After shooting at the Gun Store, you can stop at one of my faviorite watering holes: The Crown & Anchor.
Hell, if I happen to have a rare day off, I can take you to Desert Sportsmans. My one and only machine gun is in the shop right now, but I expect to get it back in the near future.

Most indoor ranges in Las Vegas have full auto rentals. The nicest indoor range I have been to in town is Discount Firearms on Western. They also have full auto rentals.

Any info about Nellis anyone?

Or is there any public outdoor shooting? Or even membership information at local ranges?

American Shooter Supply, recommended above, has memberships at $250/yr, which includes free range time and free pistol/rifle/sub-gun rentals.

[hint]This information was gleaned by me in exactly 3 minutes, using the information already provided in this thread, and Google. [/hint]

uh...as long as we're being smart...[hint] my questions still stand about PUBLIC OUTDOOR ranges and NELLIS AFB.[/hint]. Thanks for trying though. Didn't help, but I honestly tahnk you for taking 3 minutes...

There are no public outdoor shooting ranges. There is no need for one. There are thousands of square miles (maybe millions) in Nevada where you can shoot and no one will ever know about it. You could pick up your home state whole, drop it in the middle of Nevada and no one would be harmed.
No one will see or hear you. Immediately upon leaving Las Vegas, you are basically in the middle of no where. It is illegal to shoot in the Las Vegas Valley, but you drive a half hour in any direction and use some common sense and shoot away.
Within 100 miles of Las Vegas, above ground nuclear testing was conducted.

Before anyone starts nit picking, read the post again: I said, use some common sense and obviously I made some minor generalizations.

Drive 10 minutes north of the front gate at Nellis to Apex. There is a legal, outdoor, free-range area where people shoot (or, at least they did 8 years ago when I was there).

There is no other shooting on Nellis, aside from the aforementioned skeet range out in Area 2.

Nellis assigned SrA checking in.

I know of a place just north of the 215 where a lot of people shoot. I think it was actually a police training range or something in the past. The benches are long gone, but the shade and berm are still there. Very, very littered. You'd likely need a dumptruck to cart off all the brass, hulls, and random junk out of there. Last time I was there I discovered a jetski (sans engine) full of holes. Hard to say if it falls in the blue are on the map linked above or not, probably just barely in the grey. With all the devolopment on the north side of town that places days as a unofficial range are numbered. I'm looking for a new spot.

I've shot at the American Shooters range several times. Pretty nice range, nice people, not too busy on a weekday, full auto rentals. Any ammo is allowed as long as it's not steel-core or tracer.

The range on base is just a skeet range as far as I know. Skeet isn't really my bag.

Now illegal to shoot at Apex. Something about a 4 wheeler getting shot and having connections to a former sheriff or something. I didnt find out until I had been out there 3 times. I was lucky no one came by.

The Range at Discount Firearms is truly sweet. First off, they have forced ventilation blowing the entire width of the range from behind the shooter. Second, there is full lighting control, so you can do no light/dim light/bright to dark light/changing light/etc (so long as everyone on the range is cool with that). Third, the target mechanism is driven on an electric rail, no chains, and the targets can pivot 180 degrees. Four, you can drop the shooting rest and move the ammo table, so you can shoot 100% unobstructed. Five, you can shoot your own ammo, except I think they are beginning to restrict self-reloads because a few people have been blowing themselves up. Six, rifles and pistols shoot on the same range.

They don't allow rapid fire and they don't allow head shots. The second, because the target mechanisms are expensive, and they don't want to have them shot to pieces. The way around that is to hang your target upside down. About rapid fire, they've had too many people just rip full magazines everywhere including the ceiling.

Try Boulder City

If you want to shoot in the desert, you must leave Clark County. Shooting anywhere in the county, except at bona-fide ranges, is illegal.

If you want to shoot outdoors, try the Boulder City range. Nice NRA high power rifle pits, and an open public area. Just clean up after yourself. I've burned a lot of trash that has been left in the public shooting area on that range.

Could someone please clarify ? I do not believe that it is illegal to shoot ANYWHERE in Clark county: For example: are you saying it is illegal to shoot in Sloan ? Sandy Valley ? Half way to Searchlight ? Laughlin ? Mesquite ?
You can drive 100 miles away from Las Vegas and still be in Clark County.
Heck, you can hunt a variety of big game animals right in Clark County including Elk, Desert Big Horn Sheep and Mule Deer. You can also hunt small game and migratory birds in Clark County. I have seen mountain lion, bobcat, and coyotes called in and shot in Clark County.
With all due respect, I think you are mistaken.

But, I do stand corrected. You are correct: Boulder City does have a public range.

I have never been hunting and never though I would get a chance. Where do you hunt around Vegas and what do you need to do to do it?

Can ya give me a legal link/quote on that statement, por favor?

Keep away from congested areas (ala map on link above), keep 1000 ft from paved roads, shoot into some form of berm, mountainside, etc, where no people are playing, keep off Indian Reservations, out of State Parks, out of Lake Mead Nat'l Park... and have at it. If local po-po come by it's probably because someone reported you doing something verboten.

Oh yeah... If you're a Clark Co. resident, make certain you have blue card for handguns or at least have handguns that LVMPD has listed with Sheriff's office (registration)... sigh

Smiley, when you're in town, take 444 up on a visit to Desert Sportsman's range out by Red Rock west of town. Pack a lunch. Take the Scenic Loop drive afterward. If there's some way you can lock up your toys, or you can come back out with them NOT IN YOUR CAR, take a morning hike at Pine Creek, etc.

I like to go shooting at Lovell Canyon, just west of Mountain Springs. But I usually do more hiking than shooting.

Hunting? License. Shotgun for fur & feathers... check out link from NDOW

PS Bring lotsa water

Well that was a very hateful thing to say about the Japanese. So basically you are saying you don't like Las Vegas's indoor shooting ranges because you see people there who are or who you think are Japanese based solely on their appearances. That in it's own right is racist and prejudice. And so what are you anyway? Do you honestly believe you are superior to them? Everyone here in the United States immigrated or have ancestors who immigrated here at one point or another. The Native Americans where here first to start with not the Caucasians. Perhaps you are saying that if these tourists were all Lilly white Americans that you wouldn't be bothered by them? But because they happen to be Japanese you seem turned off by them. That by its very nature is racist and your post should be deleted. Isn't it enough that the Japanese suffered a devastating earthquake and tsunami last February? Do you hate them for pearl harbor? They paid 2 nuclear bombs for that disaster. You are wrong to be picking on other people merely because they are different from you. You should be ashamed of yourself. The Human Genome had already been mapped and we are more than 99.9% genetically the same! If there is one thing I can't stand in life it is ignorant people.
