I picked up a Belgian trade flintlock musket at auction a few weeks ago. Sent off my check and prepared to wait for: (1) the letter to be delivered; (2) the check to clear; and, (3) for UPS to provide some notification that they had tried to deliver their package so that I can go to the warehouse and pick it up.

Having sent the check, I promptly went back to work. ( I'm scheduled for at least two 7-day work weeks per month.) I figured I'd have at least a two or three week wait.

The seller was apparently a trusting soul who sent the musket as soon as he got the check. Problem is, he sent it by UPS. :banghead:

In my experience, UPS doesn't deliver. Often, they don't even notify that they tried to deliver. Such as in this case. :banghead: :banghead:

First notice that I got was from the seller, saying that UPS was returning the package to him. :what:

I emailed him my contact info, that I would still like the musket, that I would cover additional costs, and that I'd like the UPS folks to hold the package at the warehouse.

Tomorrow I must go forth and battle the trolls at UPS, trying to get them to cough up my musket. :cuss:

Wish me luck.

wow thats a huge delema. you need to order more from ups. call them up more and deal with them some more. i was doing a lot of orders from ups. To where i gave the ups guy a key to the front gate on the street. So now when ever i order something i make sure to get the tracking number which sounds like you didnt. then i check the site when i see it is going to be sent to the local ups that will deliver here i give them a call request my regular guy his name is Shane. heck i even have his number. sometimes i will give him a call ask him where he is at. then i will drive to a stop where he is going to be next. he will pull up to drop off the packages for that spot. sees me gets my package bingo win win situation.

So its just a matter of getting to know your local ups guy and the facility. sometimes if i cant wait i will call up the hub and tell them to keep it there put it on will call. then i will go by and pick it up myself.

Biggest mistake was U.P.S. wait until the driver reports that he can't find your address, after you see him drive right past your home. Oh yea house numbers on the front are 9" high red letters that can be seen even with my wore out eyes. Back in the early 90's U.P.S. cost me a contract with a new company because of their failure to deliver. Paid extra for over night delivery of material to complete job with a dead line. It showed up about 12 hours after the dead line had come and gone. Now if I order I specify that the item be shipped by the U.S. Postal Service, I have never once had any issue with the post office. Let's cross our fingers that they will find you this go around.

A UPS driver reported that delivery to my house was attempted 2 days in a row when it never was. On the 3rd day the regular driver showed up with our package and said that the new driver had returned to the terminal with his truck still 1/2 full from all of the deliveries that he didn't complete. So he went and reported "attempted delivery" for all of them. UPS customer service didn't want to hear about it or recognize what was going on. A bad driver shouldn't be able to ruin a simple delivery but unfortunately they can.

There are some shady UPS drivers as well as Fedex drivers. I've had worse luck with Fedex as apparently they farm out their deliveries in my area. I had to arrange meeting with a contracted Fedex driver that was using a Penske truck to make his deliveries (!). When it's not my usual UPS guy, these other clowns report attempted delivery when they never did (my wife is usually home and she never heard a knock or the doorbell).

What's up with these dishonest people. I wish they would take more ownership in their jobs.

Once I again had paid extra for overnight delivery of special software I needed. Sat on porch all day waiting for UPS to no avail. About 5:00pm I started calling the hub in Birmingham, each time I got a different person. Finally around 10:00 I got a hold of a supervisor that was very apologetic, I kept raising heck until he promised to bring the package to me that night. At 11:30 pm he pulled up in front of my house with my delivery. There he could see my house numbers on the front gate and just shook his head. The driver that ran that route no longer worked for UPS after that.

Found out what happened. The seller sent the package to the address on the check instead of the one on the purchase agreement.

My checks are over two years old. In that time the city that I live in changed the street numbering system (and the bank changed name twice). Since UPS uses something like Googlemaps to find locations, the old address simply doesn't exist. So they sent the musket back.

So Big Brown did nothing wrong this time.

Hopefully I'll get the musket in another week or so.
