which .40 has the least recoil?

HAHA Almost every .40 cal firearm is heavier than a Glock model 23 :D ... well Kahr's new PM40 would be a little lighter. . . and therefore experience more felt recoil.

compensated

Since you like the Glock 23, why not get the compensated version? Same gun size with a lot less recoil, so I am told anyway.

I was thinking that myself but they are absolutely terrible in low/no light situations that I couldnt bring myself to suggesting it. I still do not know what the problem with the .40 recoil from a 23 is really worth mentioning. I mean like I said earlier it is my wifes favorite pistol and she weighs barely 100 lbs and stands a tad over 5'.

And I hate recoil but would never consider that firearm difficult by any means to control or really even noticeable. ??

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have been interested in the Beretta PX4, although I am puzzled by the contradictory reports about it. I am wondering if these contradictions are the result of the ammunition used? There are big differences in power between .40 loads with 155 grain bullets and those with 180 grain bullets. The 155s I've shot seem to be a lot hotter than the 180s.

One pistol no one has mentioned yet is the Glock 35. I am wondering if it would handle better than the G23, since it is heavier and has a much longer barrel?

Holy crap. Almost every single firearm available in 40S&W has been named. How can they all have the least recoil?
This outlines the fact that recoil is very subjective. The OP needs to go rent/borrow a few guns and shoot them to see.

Steyr m40a1 cdnn had them for $349 a while back. not much bigger that my USPc .40 but seemed more ergonomic and easier for me to hit target.

Yeah, seriously...

Just get a fullsize or ported model.

If this pistol is wanted for CCW, IMHO, a ported model is out of the question. I think we need a little more info at to how this gun is going to be used.

Yes, the G35 is much more manageable. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Thanks for the advice, CountGlockula. I am thinking the G35 should surpass other .40s in muzzle velocity, since the barrel is 5.31 inches long. It should also be more accurate due to the longer sight radius.

Home defense, plinking.

I was looking for a 9mm so I rented a Glock 17 and a Beretta 92. Also rented a long side, ported Glock .40 caliber. I liked the .40 the best. It was easy for me to control even firing with one hand. The 9mm Glock muzzle flipped up and to the side. The .40 did not. Flash from the ports did not bother my aim in the least. I should've bought that long slide, ported ...

Correct. If you're in my neck of the woods, I'd let you try it.

Since you're used to shooting a .40S&W Glock, I'm sure the 35 model will meet the needs of what you're looking for. I've tried the G22 with my usual ammo: 180 grain Winchester White Box, and the G35 has better balance in recoil...just my personal observation.

Here's a picture of mine in an earlier post:

You should try shooting a ported barrel pistol from the hip! :what:

I did that once without really thinking it through first...

I love my USPc40 and my Sig P229(all steel). If you want some serious training ammo, check out Speer Lawman ammo. This stuff was hotter than the Gold Dots. It matched PMC Starfire 155gr. It will make your 40 rize little.

move to a 45acp and LOSE POWER compared to a 40 S&W?? How? My 200gr 45acp moving at over 1025fps does not seem to have less power than any 40 S&W round I'm aware of.

+1 on the Witness Elite Match in .40 it shoots really well and the perceived recoil is very mild. Then I slip in my 10mm barrel and shoot 135grs at 1650 or the 200grs at 1225 and that gentle recoil takes a vacation and things get real fun shooting watermelons with the 135s and 200 yard gongs with the 200s.

Yeah steer clear of Berreta. Grab a G35 and call it a day. If you really really love the .40 cal which absolutely is the most voilent feel when pulling the trigger out of the 9mm and .45 Auto. I honestly was going to go with a 10mm but when I shot one I knew that a G23 was right for me :D SO try the G35 and see how you like. Chances are you wont even feel it. Good luck!
