In your personal experience which 5.56 and/or .223 semi autos will reliably run steel cased ammo?

I don't have any personel experience but I would think the Saiga in 223 as the AK designed rifle was built to run on steel case ammo.

Either of my ARs work 100% with cheap steel Wolf. Both have chromed bores.

Never had a problem with it either. The nice thing about Wolf is it's so underpowered that if your rifle works with Wolf you know it'll work with anything. BSW

I use it in my Mini 14 all the time. I've run it in my AR before, though it's not something I make it a habit of doing (steel-on-steel, etc.).
I have a friend who uses it in his Kel Tec SU16.
But an AK platform would probably be best suited for it.

The only AR I have that doesn't like steel cased ammo is my match CMP. I suspect it's because of tighter chamber tolerances. That being said, I run steel cased ammo through all three of my other AR uppers (24, 20, and 16" bbls) without a stutter. You do have to learn to use a chamber brush regularly, since the steel cased ammo carbons up a chamber faster, which is the main cause of short-stroking. The chrome lined bbls and chambers will run it without a problem for a much longer time between cleanings.

My buddy says, "If your AR can't shoot Wolf ammo, put a skirt on it." :)

    Any that are good quality.

I have better luck with Bear than Wolf though.

Well, there's different grades of Wolf ammo, manufactured by different companies, and that's something worth keeping in mind, as well. Wolf doesn't actually manufacture the ammo - Tula Cartridge Works, Prvi Partisan, and others are the actual manufacturers (I forget the name of the company that manufactures their target .22 ammo, but it's in Germany somewhere).

    From Wikipedia
Wolf Ammunition is a Russian clearinghouse company that sells ammunition produced in former state-owned (USSR) factories. Some of the ammunition is made in the Tula arms factory while some is foreign made with Wolf markings (for example their .22 target ammunition is made in Germany). The company is known for providing good quality ammunition at relatively low prices. Wolf produces ammunition in the most popular rifle and pistol calibers. Almost all of it comes in polymer-coated (previously lacquered), steel cartridge cases.[citation needed]

Unlike some foreign suppliers of such bargain-price ammo, Wolf's is non-corrosive.

I'll add this just an academic question I had and was discussing with some one the other day it.

    My experience:

5.56 AK variants: run it great

AR 15: this one depends there is such a huge variation in whats out there that AR is in some ways an amorphous term. Some ARs yes some no.

STG 5.56: I experienced a stuck case after a few hundred rounds.

Mini 14: seem to run steel case fine

Others that I am interested in but do not have experience shooting any significant amount of steel cased ammo through:

    Sig 556

    FS 2000

    C93/HK 93

    XCR

    FN SCAR

    Daewoo DR200

And any others I'm not thinking of right now.

any of your ak types will do it reliably; tantal, galil, saiga, Krebs custom, golani,
etc. I do have lots experience with ar's, but not running them with steel ammo, so I cannot say on ar's. Remmy 7400's can do it as well, and I think the old winny 99's, if they were chambered in 223/ could do it.
If I were to pick ar types that I would bet could do it, I would say Daewoo, sig, h/k, fn, ruger mini,
armalite 180b, maybe the fs, maybe the stg.

Funnily enough the only problems I've had with steel cased ammo have been in a 5.56 Saiga. Had 2-3 stuck cases with polymer Wolf during the first 500 rounds.

From personal experiance I know that Wolf has run fine in my Bushmaster AR, my DPMS AR, my Galil, My HK93, and my Deawoo DR200. That is in 223. I have several AK's that all run fine with Wolf in both 7.62x39 and 5.45x39. My PSL has run Wolf 7.62x54R also. I have also run .308 Wolf through my G3 and FAL clones without problems.

    Did you mean "Beryl" ?

The Tantal is chambered for the 5.45x39 soviet standard round.

    P.S. "Krebs Customs" are Saigas.

On my new (less than 2 months old) Bushmaster XM15, I had about 4-5 stuck casings out of 600 rounds of Wolf black box .223 remington. The last one was so bad that a dewey rod couldn't knock it out, and I had to brace the charging handle against the bench, and slam the butt of the gun very hard several times to finally free it. I'm at the point where I won't use steel case anymore for fear of damaging the barrel or BCG.

The Sig5XX series usualy doesn't have any trouble with it. I have run just about everything threw my 556 and it just eats it up. Last time I went to the range I made up a mixed mag of about 5-6 different brands, some .223, a little 5.56, some 55, 62, and 75 grain and some uber cheap steel crap just to see if it would jam. It shot it all.

All of them work fine in my experience, unless the extractor is marginal. I'd rather find out about it shooting Wolf at the range than some situation that mattered.

    For me:
Mini (as long as you used the factory 5 rounders), 2 Bushy ARs, Sig556 and an Arsenal SLR-106. Pretty much every 5.56/.223 rifle I own. The Bushies and Mini ate the weak Wolf stuff from back in the day and all of them (minus the Mini I no longer have) eat the Monarch/Brown Bear I have now.

You own or have shot significant quatnities of steel cased ammo throuhg all the various models of semi auto .223 rifles available in the US? You must have either a hell of a collection or access to lots of guns.

Further my STG 5.556 wont reliably run the stuff. I don't consider a stuck cases after 100-200 rounds as reliable.
