Basically, I was going to buy a Daniel Defense for super-cheap from my LGS (I am helping him with something, so that was part of the deal)...

I had decided on the DD V7, which is on order with no solid timeline on delivery. He told me today that he just got a Stag 3G in and offered that to me instead. So... would you take the Stag (that Giselle trigger is awesome, by the way) or wait for the DD?

I'd wait for the DD given the choice. They're a top quality manufacturer with a proven track record for reliability. Stags simply do not hold up as well, especially in high round count classes.

Not even close. DD all the way. You will be happier in the long run and it will hold its value much better.

I think I'm going to see if I can buy the Stag, leave it in the box, and then "swap" them when the Daniel Defense comes in.

I think the bubble has burst. This weekend at the local gunshow tables were piled high with ARs from a dozen manufacturers. AKs, a SCAR, tons of magazines. All overpriced and none being bought. Picking up a Stag now will simply cost you money down the road when you sell it. Perhaps 3 months ago I'd have said buy and resell and pocket the money while waiting on your DD but the calendar doesn't say December and ammo is still in a pinch point. Relax and wait for what you want.

I dunno man. That sounds like a way to lose money to me.

The DD won't cost me any more than the Stag. I just don't know if my FFL friend would rather sell the Stag now than have me sit on it 'til the DD comes in (at which time I'd give it back to him unfired and "take" the DD). Honestly, the thing that bugs me about doing it that way as opposed to waiting for the DD is having to do two 4473's and only ending up with one gun. The advantage would be that if some AWB legislation does actually pass, our deal will be complete.

Wait as long as it takes for the DD to show up.

Feinstein's pet legislation will/has made it out of committee. It will be April before it gets to the Senate floor. The probability of her AWB passing a Senate floor vote is about the same as me winning American Idol. And the House has basically said there is no way in hell they would pass an AWB. [unless you're talking about a state AWB; I don't know where you reside]

Wait on the DD and distract yourself until it shows up.

What's the point in taking the Stag and it sitting there, just for you to return it?

DD all the way. This is an obvious choice

Wait for the DD, and if you feel really compelled just pay attention to CSPAN and take the Stag if the sky starts falling.

Well honestly, I agree with everybody else.
The DD is a much sweeter firearm...ESPECIALLY if you are saying you can get it for the same price as the Stag. That alone is worth the wait.

I'd find out if he will just "hold" the Stag in reserve for you while you wait for the DD instead of you actually buying the Stag. Even if the AWB passes and becomes law, it still will not happen tomorrow or anything. I'd wait as long as possible for the DD rather than panic buy something you don't really even want.

Features wise i really like the Stag 3G and it will almost certainly outshoot the DD any day of the week. With the trigger and SS barrel i would expect excellent accuracy. Ulitmately though it comes down to how you like to shoot and what the intended purpose of the gun is. If home defense is a realistic application than I'd go with the DD as it has earned a great reputation for reliability plus the shorter barrel. If Red Dawn happened tomorrow i'd still probably go with the DD as reliability would be most important. For fun at the range though gimme the Stag.

Didn't read your other thread but the DD would be my choice, no question. (In fact I have a LW V3.) I'd forget about buying the Stag then returning/reselling it. Doesn't make much sense. Let the LGS sell it now to someone else.

Wait for the DD. I wouldn't consider getting the Stag given the opportunity of getting the DD some time in the future.

I'm going to go against the grain here. IF you are a 3-gun competitor or wish to be then the Stag will serve you well. Disclaimer, I do own a Stag 3G, and the trigger is might fine.

If you want/need an AR to go to war with, fight the next zombie apocalypse...etc.. then get the DD.

That is funny because I have used parts from both. My lower is a Stag and my barrel is a DD. I love DD barrels and the fact they are cold hammer forged and chrome lined. I also have one of their rails and it is great. The Stag parts I have used have all been great too, but I would give a nod to the DD if I had to choose due to their barrels. Great rifles either way.

Ill be upfront and say I bought the stag 3G 2 months ago.
I'm in Canada where there is no panic so I bought it at a discount.

The Stag 3G comes with a Geissele 3GS trigger, an E.R. Shaw 18" 1-8" fluted SS barrel and an HP/MP bolt along with an 15" Sampson Handguard.
I haven't put it through its paces yet since I'm waiting on a scope for it but the upper to lower fit is nice and tight and the trigger is sweet.
