Which Butler Creek flip up caps for an IOR Valadada 10x42mm?

At the local gunstore they have a chart of sorts that tells which ones to buy. I took my scope along with me, and tried a few in the range of sizes to get the one that fit the best.

Not entirely. The 42mm usually means the diameter of the lens itself. The outer diameter of the obective bell (the tube holding the lens) will be bigger how much bigger depends on the manufacturer. So, the best thing to do is either get ahold of a 10X42 IOR and measure the outside bell diameter and look up which one fits on BC's chart or bring a scope into a shop that stocks the covers and try them out to see which one fits.

Be careful to note that there are different ocular and objective covers. What complicated things is that their identifying numbers (e.g., #1, #4, etc.) do NOT coincide. That is a #1 ocular (EYE) is not the same size as a #1 objective (OBJ). (Plus also, they have different opening methods.)
