I wasn't caught completely flat footed, but I would have felt better having at least a thousand more rounds of .22LR. The only item in my area that is relatively plentiful is shotgun shells so I have been buying them.

.22lr

I have plenty of plinking ammo, but I am trying to break in a new "precision" rifle, and match grade stuff seems to be out of stock everywhere. It is highly annoying.

I'm in pretty good shape for everything except I need a few pounds of IMR-4064.

shaggy430:

Along with many others, we both saw "the handwriting on the wall".

Under the other ammo topic, "Ammo shortage easing or not?", where I expressed bafflement that human nature is so resistant to many hints (elections in '08, '12) until it overreacts like a herd, far too late, provoked a reaction from somebody that I must have voted for Obama, twice.

That reaction was really bizarre.

I'm actually considering selling a gun or two, putting off acquisition of my first 1911, and replacing everything that goes with a comparably sized 357 revolver or lever gun.

It would greatly reduce the number of calibers I have to run around looking for, and as much as I'd REALLY like a wider variety of toys, it would make the core of my collection a set of firearms of types my wife is already familiar and comfortable with.

Then, all I have to do is set about maintaining a good stockpile... say 200 serious 357s and 500 target load 38s, as baseline. I don't EVER want to feel caught naked and flat footed like this again, running around in desperate search of five different calibers....

.22LR shortage is aggravating me to no end.

I've got several thousand rounds, but I don't want to shoot it... I know how fast I go through .22LR.

I've actually had better luck buying a hundred or so rounds of 9mm and .45 at the range (they've got a good amount of "range-use only" ammo), shooting some, and bringing the rest back. I've actually increased my 9mm and .45 stock that way.

Personally, I'm fine.

My caliber angst has to do with work. I work for a smaller police department. There are no "special contracts" to get ammo. We have to buy it the same as everybody else, from the same places, except the department doesn't have to pay tax on it.

Our stocks of 9mm duty ammuntion were getting low, and no replacements could be found. We had to switch the 9mm over to a completely different round that we could get an adequate supply of.

Definitely .22LR. Followed by 9x19.

When the panic struck again I said, "Fine, I'll just shoot my .22's for the time being." What ticks me off the most about it is I don't understand why it's gone. Not like .22's are the target of bans.

9mm was the second cheapest I shot and it sucks because I love shooting me CZ-75. I would place .223 third, but since I rarely shot my AR due to cost and the fact I have enough sitting around to defend myself in a bad scenario I am kinda meh about it.

I never realized how popular 22lr was. I have about 6000rnds of 22lr that I just never got around to using. My want is 7.62x39. Its my favorite round and I cant find it anywhere for a reasonable price. I cant wait for this ammo crisis to come to an end. All i can find is .270, .243, and 30-06.

I just bought a rifle in .308 last April so the shortage of that round plus all .30 bullets for reloading is a pain. I was not in a financial position to stock up on .308 ammo and components.

At some point, the hoarders are going to run out of money and/or storage space, though. However, prices may always remain inflated now that manufacturers and dealers know what people are seemingly willing and able to spend. That's capitalism, I suppose.

Lots of cartridges are hard to find at reasonable prices.

Personally, it is the scarcity of low recoil 12 gauge 00 Buckshot that impacts me the most.

I enjoy setting up 3 targets at 15 feet and practicing for both accuracy and quick follow-up with a 12 gauge riot gun.
The scarcity of cash is what bothers me most

I buy Hornady buckshot in 5lb boxes and roll my own.

For me it's definitely the scarcity of .22LR ammo. I generally shoot more rimfire than I do all my centerfire rifles and handguns put together. I use it for general target practice, plinking, and general shooting and I really miss cheap and easily available ammo in that caliber.

If and when price and availability get back to normal ill definitely be keeping more .22 in stock.

This latest round of panic buying hasn't affected me at all.

I was prepared for it, as I'm sure most of you will be in the future.

In response to the guy who asked how I have my own range and live in Illinois......
Easy.... I own the ground and either my dad or uncle own on all sides of me and I border USFS ground. I have several large berms I have built and often fire into hills if I don't have a berm or target box. It is not a public range and is not a private range with members, simply put it is mine and I built my house and shop with my number one hobby in mind. I have a few buddies including leo's out here often and some have helped build the place.

I was running alittle low in .22 mag but was lucky enough to snag eight 50 count boxes of CCI Maxi Mags @ 12.00 each (tax free) in our BX.

I mainly shoot rimfire. I have about 1500 rounds of 22 LR on hand and that is it.

I guess it is good I have a bow and arrow to shoot!

I was pretty much prepared for the last shortage and have more ammo on hand for this shortage as well. The problem is psychological. Sure, I have nearly 9K rounds of centerfire rifle ammo in my four major calibers, a thousand in the others, 5K rounds of centerfire pistol/revolver ammo and maybe 7K rounds of .22...but if I start shooting that stuff...when will I be able to replace it? Same thing happened last time. I had the ammo to go shooting but I didn't want to shoot what I couldn't replace!

9mm Luger target/range. I would not only like to go shooting without using my remaining $$$ hollowpoints, but would like to qualify for my HCP.
