Which CCW handgun in .45 ACP?

If size and weight don't matter...

I would go with the HK USP45. I love mine. It has been dead reliable and very accurate for almost 10k rounds.

If you go the single stack route, I would obviously look at a good 1911, but you may want to seriously consider the SIG 220.

Glock 30 with mag extensions. Try the XD and the Sig though as well. All 3 are good guns, but you need to check the feel and the sights on each one for yourself.

The next compact .45 I am going to buy is the Glock 30 or 36. I was looking at the PT145 very hard but since my recoil spring assembly shot through the front of my PT140MilPro I have almost no confidence in the Taurus. If you would have asked me a week ago I would have told you the Taurus.
I have come to this conclusion. Your carry gun should be dead reliable and if it's pretty then it's a plus but that should be the least of my concerns. Pretty is for range guns and safe queens. Just my .02
And guys, I am not bashing Taurus. I have had more than my share of Taurus pistols over the years and enjoyed them all however for a CCW it's a little more important for me to have something i trust completely.

Government issue M-1911 or M-1911A1

Don't worry about accuracy, if you need to use it, you will most likely be less than 10 feet from your target.

My favorite .45's, all of which I own, in order:

S&W 1911PD Commander
Springfield XD45C
Glock 30
Springfield 1911A1 Loaded Combat

I no longer own my PT145, but it is probably the best value for the money out there. You really get alot of gun for what you pay for it.

Mine had a few magazine issues and a friend of mine ended up buying it. It is now his CCW pistol and he takes great pleasure in waving under my nose how much he has enjoyed it every time I see him! :uhoh: :banghead:

Recoil - HK USP full size, their proprietary recoil system really is amazing. Magazine capacity - USP full size is 12, I think the XD has more capacity though, someone correct me if I am wrong
Ease of Reloading - For carry gun, I would not got with HK if you carry another brand simply because there magazine release is different and while it works really well, if you are used to a standard magazine release, chances are in the heat of the moment you could confuse yourself.

I have to tell you though....saying you dont care about size, weight, or ease of concealing sounds like you havent tried concealing something with a large size, heavy weight, or that doesnt conceal well...I dont mean to offend you, but something there just doesnt sound right.

I like my new Glock 21SF, the grip feels a lot like a Glock 22. You'd want to handle one before you buy, as some people dislike the ambidextrous safety, and if you end up with the picatinny rail your holster selection is lessened somewhat. I shot a G30 and G36, both fit me well and were accurate, so if you don't mind losing a little capacity they are more easily concealable than a full size. The full size fits 13+1.

If you prefer hi-cap 1911s the Para models are very nice.

There are several excellent guns that fit your criteria, try a bunch of them, then make your decision. The one I've heard the most rave reviews about is the Glock 30.

No offense....just had to pick my priorities....of course, I don't want to CCW a brick....but being of large size....a pound difference is tolerable to me. The other things are more important than the weight/size.

Also...I might get several....a small one, medium...large....then rotate them according to needs/dress/situation.

It's not that I don't care about weight...as much as it's not the topmost factor. Make sense?

GLOCK 30 .
* You can use the G21 mag by using an adapter(forgot the name? I think it starts with A & something?) and if all else fail get the Scherer metal lined Glock .45 mag 30rnders for gang elimination:D.
* The new G30 model got those rail now for light or light/laser(I recommend TLR1, TLR2 or M6x) for nightime encounter/search.;)

GoodLuck on the search..

Since I've been old enough to carry, and as far as I can see into the future, its been my 1990 Sig Sauer P220 American.

No hiccups, and the only thing other cleaning it after every range trip that I've done in 7 years is replace the recoil spring and I bought one of those new "higher cap" 8 round mags.

Cumulatively, I'd say I have close to 5,000 rounds through it, lord knows how many it threw down range in the 10 years prior.

As to the need for more than 9 rounds (plus 2 more 7 rounders at times) of 45acp for CCW, I'm sure I'd be dead before I got to the 7th or 8th shot.

Glock 30. You can go with the 10+1 or 13+1. Extremely reliable, small enough to conceal, and can't beat it for the accuracy, recoil, and money.

I also have the Glock 21, but that is by the bed for things that go bump in the night.

1) Colt Series 70 Reissue
2) Colt WWI Reissue
3) Colt XSE Commander
4a & b) SA-XD 45ACP (full-size) or Glock 21 (SA)

I have both a Springer 1911 and a G21. I carry the G21. I have had sever FTF on the 1911, and 0 on the Glock. Case closed

except I own 4 1911's at the moment that I have never had a failure with, and have sold several others that were reliable as well, and I am sure there is SOMEBODY out there who has had a bad experience with the Glock and would say "carry the 1911, case closed!" ;)

but he said he wanted higher capacity, which is why as much as I PERSONALLY feel the 1911 is the way to go for 45 acp, the XD is the way to go given his wants. Nothing wrong with a glock per se, but the xd has ergonomics/grip angle more likely to suit more people I think.

Try em both though and see--the glock will either seem perfect or horrible when it comes to grip angle. If it feels great go with it, because it's different than most anything else in that regard.

+1 for the Taurus Millpro PT145, I have alot of choices and thats the one that I never have to think about, its always ready to go matched to a Glock 36 paddle holster (remove the tension screw completally and the light rail will fit no problem) its more compact than the XD 45 compact its carryin 10 rnds versus 6 for most 1911 compact clones, mine is the super smooth DOA totally safe with one in the tube (actually dropped it at 80 mph from the Harley on I-10 and no boom plus the gun still functions perfectly today) or ya have the option of a manual safty if ya wish, very low recoil and grip is only very slightly larger than its 9 mm or .40 S&W counterpart, very usable sights.....

It is the perfect CCW compact and the newest version gives ya DA/SA capability however I really like this ones DAO trigger it feels exactly like my S&W Mod 66 .357 (66-1) very smooth not heavy at all breaks right at 8 lbs I like em so much I've bought 3 of em!!

Edit: BTW Ya can swap the mag latch to either side to suit as well ;) here are a couple pics of one of em
