Which is a better nipple?

I've used both and would have to give the edge to Tresos.Uncle Mikes stainless are very good as well, but I think the Tresos are the most uniform for size out there.

I haven't seen Uncle Mike's nipples for years, are they still made? I've used UM ROA nipples in Uberti Colts.

Treso's have a smaller fire hole, it's supposed to reduce back pressure on the cap, reducing blown off caps, at least that's the story. I've got as set on one of my spare cylinders and it still occasionally throws a cap.

uncle mikes. Or the Spitfire nipple. I bought one Treso nipple before for my sidelock and that was the last time. After only 70 shots an entire side of the threads was gone.

So why is a "blown off cap" bad?
A possible negative is that the cap or parts thereof could become lodged in the mechanisms of the revolver while the positive seems to me to be that the cap may be blown off so that one doesn't have to "pick it off" to reload...except that to be blown off the hammer couldn't be holding the cap in place.
What am I missing?

If the cap seal leaks then you are loosing part of the blast that would have went to push the ball forward. So ball will be low on target from that shot and a shot where it didn't leak as much or not at all might be higher on the target. Anyway inaccuracy.
Plus if the cap blows open or off then you have a gun with fouling building up at the rear of the cylinder and down into the trigger area which would have stayed clean if it did not leak.
And also like you already mentioned the jamming problem.
These guns can be made to not leak at the nipple at all with some work. Proper main spring tension, Proper flash hole size in nipple and proper load.
They shouldn't blow a cap off at all. If it did then the hammer didn't do it's job.
Along with a close cylinder gap you can come very close to eliminateing the fouling problems alot of you here seem to have. And no grease.
And Yes, On my guns I have to pick all the caps off but would much rather do that then have the fouling problems.
