The agonies of indecision, and yes, I know, most people end up with several of them! OK, I'm down to a couple models at this point, and I'll explain my intended usage and reasoning - please add your comments, if you would - my mind is really in the middle here.

Tactical Pro II - for carry mostly - like the commander size frame and must have lightweight (alloy) frame. Some worries, in reading lots of internet fora (and you know what they say about THOSE), it appears to suffer from a lot of failure to feed in the first few hundred rounds, along with complaints of an easily damaged frame coating. All in all, it's the cheaper of the models I'm thinking about, and will be a bit lighter and easier to carry, plus isn't as "shiny." More tactical. I wonder if the shortened action means tighter initial springs and that's causing the FTF, as most say they fall in a groove after awhile.

Custom CDP II - yes, it's a full-size, but only a few ounces more than the Tac Pro. I like the fact it has the full bbl and fit bushing, actually, as all my 1911s are Colts and Springfields, and I'm used to bushings - I've heard few reports of FTF with these (longer springs/travel?). I like the fancy grips (rosewood) but secretly worry if I'd baby it and not want to carry. (I could carry either of my Commanders, or my SA, but that IS the primary reason for spending the money). For the price differential, I'm leaning toward this one, as it's not that much more than the Tac-Pro.

Someone help me decide. And, please don't tell me to buy both - really can't right now! I'd rather not hear a lot of Kimber bashing either, not my purpose in this thread. I've got plenty of time to save up for that Wilson, or whatever, someday, but right now, it's Kimber in the crosshairs.

I have the custom shop CDP ll in .45 and the stainless ll in 9mm, I bought the CDP ll as a carry pistol, alloy frame, commander size, its been 100 % reliable and a joy to carry. I bought the stainless ll to shoot, it started out with a few hi-cups but after a few hundred rounds its running almost 100%, I've had one failure in the last 300 rounds. Both shoot extremely well. I have 4 1911s and I'm impressed with the kimbers for the money spent.

Thanks for the input! xring, is that CDP II the full size model? Loganlott, I like the SIS fine, but it's heavy - want the lightweight model for carry as I already have a stainless Colt Combat Commander. The CDP I'm looking at does have the rounded edges, whereas the Tac-Pro does not, so there's that. You think it makes that much difference?
 
No, its the 4" model, alloy frame and the light melt job, beveled edges, I've been very happy with it, it came with a exceptional trigger and it shoots very well, for a carry gun its great.
 
xring44, that'd make your CDP the "Pro" model.

Don't have the 5" CDP, but have the CDP and the Tactical Pro. Love 'em both! However, for carry, the "carry melt" treatment of the CDP is really, really nice ... And the Tactical's magwell is not really needed ('tho it looks cool) for a CCW piece.
 
I have a Ultra Carry II Stainless, a TLE/RL, a SIS Custom/RL and an Aegis Pro 9MM, they are all great guns, the slide stop needed to be replaced on the Aegis because I had a magazine that the slide would lock when it was empty. As for the others they are great.

I carry the UC all the time, it shoots nearly as well as the full size models and conceals well.
 
I prefer my Kimber Ultra to my Kimber Pro. That said, of your choices I'd pick the Pro CDP II. Otherwise get the Ultra CDP II
