I am looking for some reliable high cap mags for the Saiga. Are there any original Saiga high cap mags around and if so where? Which after markets have you guys had good luck with? Which brands should I stay away from? I am also looking for mags for a mini 30 and mini 14. I am running seperate posts for these but, if you have good info on these as well, feel free to post it here.

Is your Saiga converted or not?

If converted, any magazines for the normal AK-47 will do, but your best bet is going to be non-USA steel magazines.

If yours is not converted, I can't help you. I do know this, however. In the long run, the $150 dollars you spend in converting it would probably be saved in magazines over getting Saiga-specific ones.

    Thanks John

No it is currently stock. I have thought about converting it but it is not a rifle that I need 30 mags for 3 or 4 will probably be plenty. I have two ARs with about 15 mags so I have the SHTF scenario covered pretty well with those. By the way are the AK mags still available and relatively cheap?

I think you can still get the AK magazines for a relatively good price. 44Mag.com has some Hungarian in stock listed on their site.

Even if I didn't need 20 or 30 rounds, I'd look at converting-- if for no other reason, I find that the ergonomics feel better.

However, I think that you'd have a LOT more options open to you in a converted one. Back when I used AKs, I had a couple 5 and 10 round magazines that I used if I was using the AK as a brush gun.

I think doing a conversion and doing that would probably net you out a cheaper -- or at least less annoying-- situation.

    That's just my opinion.

Gilberts Guns has SureFire mags that will work in any UNconverted Saiga.
My suggestion is to install a bullet guide, file down the mag catch slightly, and be able to use any AK mag available. You don't have to do a full conversion if you don't want to. The bullet guide and mag catch filing will take only 1/2 an hour or so and really open up your selection of mags at half the price of SureFires. Bullet guide is available thru Dinzag Arms for around $25 for the kit with guide, screw, drill, and tap.
