I'm a Colt guy. I'd pay for for a Python out of preference, not because is any better of a gun....I'd pay $1500 for a Python snub, but it would have to be near mint with a box.

I saw that you just picked up that S&W. You're fishing for compliments. Colts are hot tickets, but what you have can inspire envy adequately.

Ps when you go back to the brass chuckers I'll take that hot smith off you hands ;)

I think you have to keep them both; the Python is a great investment, but the 27 is more practical. I don't have a chronograph but I noticed on the Buffalo Bore website where they report chrono results for their ammo with various revolvers that the velocities were quite a it better from a 4" smith than from 6" python. Something to do with the forcing cone geometry, they say.

Good choice. What will be its main use?

To shoot a box of .38's each time I go to the range. For my handguns I shoot a target slow at 7 yards, two targets fast at 7 yards and 1 target slow at 21 yards.

I also get the pleasure of owning one really nice handgun.

The short barrel Pythons are more money because they are uncommon. For shooting, I'd rather have a 4+ inch barrel, and as much as I love Pythons, I think you made the right choice too.

If you plan on shooting it get the M27. If you plan on looking at it get the Python.

I've owned two Pythons, both shot out of time in 5k rounds, no more for me. I still think the Python is the nicest looking revolver ever made but I'll keep shooting my M27's.

The choice has been made, so things are a day late and $800 short, but I'd have suggested the Python. But I must admit to a preference for superior revolvers :)

Have fun with your new 27! I'll bet that's a nice shooting piece of iron. You got one in the best barrel length, too, IMO.
