Hey everyone,

Long time since I've been an active user, reality has gotten in the way fun. Anyways, buy August, I'm planning to buy my first AR rifle, the Adcor BEAR. I've had the opportunity to look at one, and I'm pretty impressed with it and favor it more over other rifles I've seen. So, what do I need in a scope? I'm looking at using the scope for 3 gun competition, and trying to keep it within tactical limited (I think that's the right one) where magnification typically doesn't exceed 3X or 4X. Also, when it's not being used on the range, I'd be keeping it close in my room as a primary defense weapon, which is making me look at scopes that have the quick detach mounts. Right now, I'm between an EOtech multipurpose optic weapons sight which has what appears as one of their standard red dot sights with their flip to side 3X magnifier. Both can be detached easily, and the magnifier can be flipped to the side when not in use. The other one I'm looking at is the Burris XTR 1x-4x-24mm with the Fastfire II red dot on the P.E.P.R. mount. 4X magnification and separate red dot mounted on top, and the whole thing can be quickly removed.

Both seem to be good choices, but I'm not sure which of the two to choose, or if there may be some other options that would fit the bill.

If you have any opinions, feel free to voice 'em!

Well I don't have an ar,, but that being said I had an eotech, recently got rid of it when I got a viper hs 1x4. If you aren't using irons and Co witnessing the eotech them I would go with the scope. I hunt and the eotech wasn't where I thought it would be. Good luck.

I have the Burris Tac30 1-4x and absolutely love it. I set it to 1.2-1.3 and can shoot with both eyes open like I would a red dot. I tried the fastfire set-up for about an hour and couldn't stand it. Its way to high to even be useable. YMMV.

Most 3 gun shoots run out to ranges of 300-400 yards, so iron sights aren't an option for many of us.

I use the Burris 332 which I have found plenty good for 3 gun shooting, for me the upside was not worrying about changing magnification, the downside is more limited field of view than a lower power variable. The other good thing is that even with dead batteries you still have the black reticle.

I've shot the Burris Tac 30 and really think it's a good optic for 3 gun. Keep in mind most classes, except open, limit you to one optic on your rifle, so the TAC 30 and the fastfire won't qualify. Some shoots may run different rules though.

For a self defense weapon their is no need for the flip to the side magnifier, you're working in a room so will never get a chance to use it.

I have an eotech on my m&p and like it alot. I haven't tried anything else on the AR but I do like mine and with the flip over 3x magnifier I think it'd make a swell set up. I might actually have to get a 3x sight to add on mine now!

If you're shooting beyond 200 yards, get a scope (and I'd be looking at a Trijicon/Leupold/SWFA at a minimum for that); if less distance than that, stick with an elctrodot. An EOTech is a fine choice in that regards.

Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't know that with 3 gun competitions

Thanks for the advice everyone!
I'll have a few hours to kill on Saturday, hopefully I can find a shop that has most of the scopes to look at!

I have ran an Eotech for about the last 10 years and have been happy with it. Down side is batteries die quickly in the heat (trunk of car). I need the ability to cowitness and I do like that. Have never used the Burris but did recently pick up an Aimpoint PRO. So far, I am very happy with it.
