With the current unstable economic conditions and potential new weapons ban looming, which would be the best to buy now. I'm considering a Colt Trophy Gold Cup or another AR-15. Both are priced about $1000. I have other 45's and 223's in my collection. Looking down the road which one will offer more overall value? The Colts are not being produced any longer. The AR's may not be legal able to buy soon. There may be SHTF ahead?

If you're looking for a financial investment, put your money elsewhere. Politics are volatile, and a ban without a grandfather clause is just as possible as one that allows previously purchased weapons to be traded freely in the private sector.

If you're looking for a new firearm that will provide much use in the future, well, you said you already have other ARs and other 45s. So this comes down to which you'll enjoy shooting more.

Since you already have multiples this is really an investment question.

The Colt will hold it's value and potentially increase in value as any collectible Colt will. It is unlikely to be named in any likely AWB.

"Just another" AR-15 will probably not appreciate in value, probably will go down in value, unless another AWB with grandfathering of existing ARs comes along. Then it will appreciate in value.

IOW, you pays your money and you takes your chances.

You wont be able to get one but an HK 416 or an AR with the gas piston mod would be the ONLY one you ever wanted! ;)

Colt... there is always a chance the AR will not be allowed to be sold at a later date.
