Since we are so engrossed on the subject of Balisongs, and I have been drawn in myself. What are the best knives in workmanship, action and construction?

I have seen the likes of the Spyderco Spyderfly , BM 46 Limited, and Microtech Tachyon.

Aside from what is hot, where are these attainable? Who are the best Internet dealers? Thanks!
 
you're out of luck, on all counts; al those models have been discontinued. you can still find them, but you're going to pay a lot more than they're worth, compared to what they retailed for.

right now, if you want a quality balisong, you can get a Bradley Kimura, a Benchmade Model 51 or 32, or even a MTech Twist.
 
Some of the best are custom balis from about a dozen one man makers.
In no particual order;

Terry Guinn
Jerry Hom - Basilisk
Robbie Dalton
Ralph Turnbull
Larry Davidson
Darrel Ralph
Mau. Dobruski

And at least 10 more makes.
 
i had both the BM42 and the Kimura, at the same time (other balis too). i sold the BM42. i loved that knife, and have other BM's that are also excellent, but i really believe the price to quality ratio favors the Kimura. you just seem to get more for your money with that one.

Nevermas - you do know Jody Samson died, right?
 
The Bradley kimura series is the BEST modern made $100 bali there is and it's made in the USA !!!

While I still think the Mtech Twist is THE Best Buy for around $25 ----- the Kimura's are a big step up from them.

I own 3 Kimuras and 3 Mtech Twists ---- while I doubt I will buy anymore Twists , I can't say that about the Kimuras !!!
 
What stores do you recommend to get Bali's? Are there announcements when new ones get released?

I heard BM was dropping out of the market.
 
zignal, yah, i know, he passed away a while back, but still worth noting to tell people that jody's work back at pacific cutlery was awesome

what stores? eh, you can find a great selection on bladehq.com and then shop around for prices.

As far as I know, Benchmade is not discontinueing their balisong line, afterall, this is their roots. I work with a knife distributor, and we were only given a few 51's for retail because of high demand and low supply
